Watched them get beat off Lebanon last week, a lot of these smaller countrys have players who’s dads, sisters, friends uncles dog is from there so qualify. Many of them play for the top clubs over here or in Australia

October 20, 20223 yr Yeah I figured a few of them would be Aussies and New Zealanders who aren't good enough, but even so it still must be a tiny pot of potential players to choose from

"best" one was Tony Cascarino In October 2000, Cascarino was the subject of national newspaper headlines when extracts from his upcoming autobiography were published in the Sunday Mirror.[23] In it, he revealed that his mother told him in 1996 that she was adopted and therefore wasn't a blood relative to his Irish grandfather. Cascarino said in his autobiography: "I didn't qualify for Ireland. I was a fraud. A fake Irishman". The FAI's Chief Executive Bernard O'Byrne stated that he was shocked by the announcement and Cascarino's former international manager Jack Charlton questioned why he came forward with the information. Cascarino revealed that Republic of Ireland teammate Andy Townsend had advised him to keep quiet about the situation.[23]

That might be the issue, I know cheaper ones were available last year but that is a crazy price 19 hours ago, Lt. Aldo Raine said: That must surely be a hospitality job. There were plenty of adult tickets on sale for £15 tonight. They were £15, £25 and £40 last night. There have been a number of players who previously would have played for Aus/NZ but are actively choosing to play for Tonga, Samoa, Fiji etc instead.

October 22, 20223 yr I've not watched any of it, but somebody on the radio yesterday was saying the attendances have been really poor, and said its been marketed really badly. Has it been that bad?

Has it been that bad? Can only go off what was said by the guest at half time in the recent game. Pushing for the game to be supported and encouraged, wanting kids involved. Then set tickets prices at up to 50 and 75 quid, for their parents to take them. Utter stupidity.
October 22, 20223 yr I couldn’t name a single player in the whole competition. Just looked, England v France is today, it’s on iPlayer 🤷🏻♂️

Has it been that bad? Really poor marketing, no posters hardly anywhere. tickets are ridiculous. Last World Cup they were £10 now they are about £40 in most stands. Just not sustainable for a northern sport. A bloke I know from Widnes did about 8 matches last time with his 3 kids but now the same would be over £100 a game. Last time it was about £25

Has it been that bad? Been in 2 rugby league hotbeds in Hull and Leigh in this past month and barring the odd banner/poster you'd not know there was owt going on. Still wimmins world cup banners and bunting up in Leigh. Rent a unit in the main shopping area of host towns/cities to flog tickets, fill it with merch, replica kits etc generate interest. Can't be that difficult, then again apparently those running RL couldn't run a bath.
October 22, 20223 yr Lady on the wireless said afer about 3 mins of the game that the ground was quite empty as there was traffic chaos outside. Not sure how many there were in the end but it didn't sound great.

I've not seen anything at all anywhere.
October 22, 20223 yr Looked about 25,000 on. Just fast forward to the semis though, there's only one of three teams can win it.

October 22, 20223 yr Author Been tonight. Thought the attendance looked decent tbh. Screen erected in the corner of the North / West stand that looked decent Beer in seats which was weird
October 22, 20223 yr Crowd looked great tbh, particularly at the northerly end. Actually sat there in the first half thinking we’d missed an event then remembered we’d seen us getting the Accy monkey off our back
