But it wasn't SM, it was a direct comment from an opposition player that led to his walkout.

Worth mentioning that they've won their last 5 league matches.
  3. Yes.
  4. A sleepless night, either because my partner is awaitng her 11th grandchild or because I was trying to figure out the anomaly on 78 pts. I think that there is a transcription error and that the computer calculated 68.8% but a human interface wrote it down as 48.8%. After all, we do know that the only difference between going up on 77 and going up on 78 is if Cambridge lose twice and one, but not both, of Morecambe and Tranmere win twice.
  5. Agreed.
  6. Both Newport and Merthyr have appeared in the old Cup-Winners Cup, Newport reached the QF.
  7. Merthyr Town still play in the Southern League in the English pyramid.
  8. Not quite the same. If we have 78 and Cambridge lose their last 2 games we are ahead of them, but if we have 77 we are behind them.
  9. Yes. And we are only team in this morning's top 8 to score in the first half.

    Policeman's grandson.
  11. Strangely, I recently lost an old acquaintance who made his fortune using the BCR. In spring 1974 (I think) he invested everything in BCR t-shirts which he sold in Blackpool over the summer, dodging police as he was hawking without a licence. In April he had to cadge money to buy a Vimto at the club shop but by September he was letting pals drive his RR round the car park at Longford Park.
  12. It turns out Ryan Mason got a lucky break when he clashed heads with GC.
  13. Even this self-serving structure would function better than the proposed changes when CL is expanded to 36 clubs. Each club plays 5 clubs at home and 5 different clubs away.... And then the league table defines qualifiers! [This might not quite work adequately]
  14. "The Big Six". I thought that was the six clubs involved in discussions to found the Football League: Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, Stoke and West Bromwich Albion. They didn't protect their status, and after finishing bottom of the league for the first two seasons Stoke were voted out and replaced by distant Sunderland.
  15. While I am totally opposed to this proposal It is actually better in its fixture arrangement than the new UEFA proposal for the Champions' League! As for bans from FIFA competitions, you might look up the Colombian El Dorado in the early 1950s. It didn't end well for those English players who got involved as a way to escape the maximum wage limits here.
  16. It was fair enough to have blanket coverage on BBC1 and News channels, but to have the same on BBC2 and BBC Parliament, plus withdrawing programs from BBC4 for the evening was rather too much. Not to mention Radio....
  17. Well at least they played in front of the record OT crowd - against Wolves.
  18. Beware number 18.
  19. It may be a more likely emergency, but the concept of utility players in the outfield does not cover the unique demands of a GK.
  20. Only an outfield player as good as Jagielka proved to be in goal is good enough.
  21. It cannot be 'a good bench defensively' without a GK.
  22. EFL have said they will not take place at the time of the funeral. 7pm is feasible, but noon maybe not (after Port Vale's game of three 'halves' yesterday).
  23. But Stalin wasn't Russian.
  24. Not the best performance, nor the best result - but we did move into third and the nearest three challengers all lost. Whereas Colchester may have been happy with a point at 3 o'clock, but they were in the mire two hours later. They have picked up 4 points in the last 8 games, against Grimsby's 9, Southend's 6 from 6 (and home to Carlisle tomorrow), and Barrow's 15 from 7. So for Colchester today a draw was a far worse result than for Bolton.
  25. Alba are not standing in individual constituencies, just in the regional lists for additional members. As in 2016 SNP won 59 of 73 constituencies, plus just 4 additional members, the new party will have negligible direct effect on SNP but will almost certainly pick up more additional members and SNP+Alba may have a majority. The irony is that those seeking indepenence are best served by voting for SNP in constituencies and Alba in regions. Any SNP votes in regional additional seats will likely be wasted and certainly reduce Alba's impact. If the leaders simply throw mud at each other the Unionist parties may fare better. Even Galloway.
