  1. Quite possibly.
  2. I'm sure I've quoted Greenland before. Greenland gained limited independence from Denmark, and then withdrew from the EEC in 1985. There was really only fishing issues to be negotiated, and this took 3 years.
  3. So you're not in favour of adopting the Euro, but are you for "as is" or proceeding to a Federal state? There are so many shades of remain.
  4. it was (and is) the direction of travel. Best to be out now.
  5. There was no shade of Remain, such as continue as is, adopt Euro currency, move closer to Federal state. The simple fact is Leave won over a million more votes than Remain, and the PM of the day had promised that the result would be honoured (then he resigned).
  6. DUP no longer hold the Government hostage. What is needed is rapidly moving towards May's position before Arlene Foster weighed in. Somewhat ironic if it actually passes HoC.
  7. A French dock strike would have more impact.
  8. Pre-Cameron any PM would have called an election. But Cameron introduced the Fixed Term Parliament Act to show Clegg that he wouldn't pull the rug from under him with a snap election after 2 or 3 years. Then shafted him by concentrating on the LibDem seats when the fixed term elapsed.

Was it a ridiculous idea 100 years ago when Chesterfield Municpal FC was formed by the council, the original Chesterfield Town FC having been liquidated in 1915? The FA and FL made clear their strong objections and Municipal was dropped from the name in late 1920 prior to their entry to the original Division 3 North in 1921.
  10. PG was not suddenly taken ill. He suddenly discovered that he had been ill for some time without himself (or ED or anyone else) realising it.
  11. The real answer is to insist that a significant proportion, say 20%, of all places shall be free and awarded to pupils whose families could not afford fees, in order to retain chartable status. Abolition is simply not the answer. The major schools would up sticks and move to Switzerland or UAE or wherever, and maybe their British land sold for development. I was able to have both my children educated at private schools. I chose to do so, at considerable expense, because the sort of education I had had was not available to them as Grammar Schools had been abolished in the area. My son had the added benefit of being in the same form and football team as Gartside junior, and each was eventually Best Man at the other's wedding.

for skipping the table tennis tournament.
  13. Lies, damned lies and statistics. He scored 9 in 14, but he was only there for half a season. He didn't want to be there and they didn't want a malcontent, so he came to Spurs in mid season.
  14. Time in the real world, as opposed to the Westminster bubble, may bring some MPs to their senses (but I am not optimistic).
  15. His letter could legally propose that the contributions taper off over the next 3 months.
  16. De Gaulle may veto an extension, failing that Macron (or is he now UniBol?).
  17. In my era Warneford got a higher proportion of firsts than any college (and that was the mental hospital). Nowadays the intensity of workload has increased substantially.
  18. It's not half! It's 68%. Oxford has got back up to 60.5%. It was 60% over 50 years ago before most grammar schools were integrated into comprehensives. Since then low expectations and political bias by many teachers has reduced the proportion of working class entrants.
  19. Q2 draw: FCUM/Athu Colls v Warrington T/City of Liverpool. Another highlight: Irlam v York City.
  20. The bitter was miles better, hence the difference in allowance.
  21. When I was a Christmas Casual on the post in 1968 I was riding shotgun to a parcel delivery driver. The round included Walkers Brewery. The commissionaire gave tokens to visitors entitling the bearer to a pint of mild or a half of bitter in the canteen.
  22. That's for the World Championships later this month, and there has been some sort of temporary repair.
