  1. He was magnificent . The first game I ever saw him play , I could not believe how skilfull he was. He didn't need pace to beat his defender , just nifty footwork and the drop of a shoulder. He was doing step overs before anyone gave "them a name" . How good were we with Peter and Willie Morgan on opposite flanks RIP
  2. Remember going to Blackpool ( maybe day after boxing day ) in the mid 70s . Went on the train from trinity street . Just turned up at the station and bought a ticket . Booking hall was rammed with wanderers, all bouncing up and down. Wooden floorboards wobbling . There was a wanderer dressed in a furry gorilla suit with a scarf tied around neck. The whole station wa singing "gorilla gorilla gorilla " . Sure I saw him on the segregated Kop. We stood in the little paddock that ran the whole length of the pitch . Wanderers fans in all parts of stadium . Great day out . Was a student at uni at the time . Remember blagging our way in kids entrance . Blackpool was u16 . We always won. Sheff Utd away , we scored 5 was 27th Dec I think .
  3. The forest fans I know are all OK. The city ground always has a decent atmosphere . Lots of them congratulated me when we beat them 3 - 2 to stay up in May. Derby and Notts are ok too. No need to hate any of them . The East Midlands is a friendly part of the country
  4. I think the guy is ok. The blemish on his career was the doctor issue at Chelsea, but no-one knows what really happened there . I remember Parky saying when Bradford won at Stamford bridge he went into the Bradford dressing room and shook the hand and congratulated every Bradford player. Respect for that. He'd sort this shambles out here for sure .
  5. Usual huff and puff with little class or style. Nobody can tell me we don't have anybody better than Williams on the bench or in the u23 squad . I cannot remember the Wigan keeper making any saves . 2nd half shots on target must be zero . No pace , no movement, no creativity . Same old same old . Only positive was the M62 and M1 back to Nottingham was clear .
  6. Hmmmm The crowd turned against megson when we drew against hull one winter's evening in December. He was sacked next morning . Coyle got off lightly I suppose. Dougie got loads of stick before he sacked. Lennon was apathy among the fans . At the end of the day we all just want a few wins alongside some decent football . Both have been in short supply during our post prem championship years
  7. When Wigan score in there first attack , probably 11 mins on the clock , the crowd will turn against parky and the players. We know we are a basket case club , but the football this season is so poor, so negative, so desperate . It makes you sad to watch. It is embarrassing to watch Bolton Wanderers Football Club at the moment .
  8. This is so embarrassing. I just read the article on another thread 're the big Sam years and then I saw these jokers
  9. That first half was dire. No pace, no creativity , no clue . Both teams are awful .
  10. The police chased em off b4 it got too serious . There were some scraps on the dirt and gravel waistland that passed as a car park behind the embankment
  11. I once did an FA cup replay at Burnden against Forest . I travelled on a Trent Barton coach full with some Forest fans from work. I ended up directing the coach along St. Peter's Way to avoid traffic . Trevor Francis scored an extra time winner . The coach got bricked by Bolton hooligans. I refuse to use the word fan for somebody who throws bricks at vehicles. Luckily no windows were broken .
  12. I am giving up midweek evening matches . It took me over 3 hours via the M1 M62. Coming home the M62 was shut so I diverted through Huddersfield . So 2.5 hours return journey and at my desk for 8.15 in the morning . Almost 6 hours in a car to watch that appalling football. Rotherham, forest and hull games were just about as poor as we've seen in recent years . When we went 1 down against villa it was game over . I lost interest at 2 nil . That never happens as I am always the most optimistic fan , but midfield is so weak, nil creativity , nil pace , nil goals
  13. Surely there must be someone to step up from u23's. That midfield is poor , back 3 or 4 or 5 are poor . Watching wheater get turned for the first goal says so much about where we are as a football team
  14. I think we got more to worry about than commentators . They all talk rubbish. We are awful. Truly awful. We have no pace , play a slow tempo , midfield has nil creativity. We attack and then stop because no-one is up front. Out muscled by an average villa side. It's embarrassing to watch .
  15. I think you are all being a little unfair . Stewards at forest , derby, Burton, Barnsley and most away ground I went to last few seasons were fine. If you behave and are respectful then there's no problem. Lets face it some fans are awful and treat stewards disgracefully. I've seen wolves fans and forest fans at ours shouting in stewards faces about ticket prices , really aggressively . I've seen wanderers fans at burton just ignoring stewards advice about blocking gangway exits " we are Bolton we don't give a sh*t". Letting smoke bombs off in the concourse under the stand in Barnsley , that's really sensible, it's not in the slightest bit funny . It's all about respect and common sense . You enter a football ground and are meant observe the safety rules . We are all people of the world . Was that a rant
  16. Cheers biggish I just Google mapped Rotherham and found your church . I remember parking on that street back in the millmoor days. I don't think I researched my parking enough before as it was quite a rough estate we parked on. Quite an eye opener viewing Rotherham from Google's ' Satellite view'
  17. I have never seen us win at Rotherham and I have been many times . First visit was in '73 ., we lost 1 nil . I was 15 and me and my mate ( who was 14 ) caught a ribble bus from moor lane. Back in the day you didn't book tickets you just went to moor lane and got on a bus . Ribble just seemed to do it by supply and demand and put moor buses on as more people turned up ! It was scary for a 15yo too as Barnsley, sheff Utd and Rotherham fans were all in the ground scrapping with Bolton fans. I remember you could also freely walk around from one end of the ground to the other via the side paddock !!! Anyway it is about time we got a result there . Would be nice to see doidge get his first goal, perhaps in front of the away fans . Anyone reccomend somewhere to park. I parked just outside the town centre when we got beat 4 - 2 in Lennon Time and someone vandalised my car ...smashed my wing mirror off. Still a lot of ill feeling between South York's and Notts ( my car has a Nottingham garage name on the number plate )
  18. 50 years as a Wanderer ... Big Sam : Some of the football with youri , Jay Jay, Ivan Campo was sublime . For a couple of seasons it was like watching Barca, everyone loved us until Souness tagged us long ball. Armfield / Greaves : First time I'd seen us play open expansive football. Decent crowds at Burnde . Great going on away grounds with big followings . Rioch : the cup runs , the teamwork , sat on his plastic seats on the grass .
  19. 1 baggies 2 millwall (would be interesting to see em in the prem) 3 Norwich 4 forest 5 sheff Utd 6 BOLTON Relegated Derby Villa Stoke More wishful thinking than judgement. Although baggies under new the management of Darren Moore will be be good.
  20. Club football always. I've had 50+ years of hurt watching the wanderers (I'm 60) but in those 50+ years nothing England ever did or didn't can ever compare to the special wanderers moments . As for the world cup you just want the team that plays the most beautiful game to win the world cup . More often than not they are in yellow shirts ????. France seem to be playing "le beau jue" at the moment. Anyway back on topic Bolton always ????
  21. I am sure the beautiful women they focus on are plants / paid models . They all have fabulous make up and when on camera go through a range of poses and emotions. Some are dressed in national costume ...as if ???????? Missed the England v pub team on Sunday so I didn't notice who they focussed on for england
  22. A great wanderer, I remember being impressed with his blonde hair and how he put himself about the park. His position was " right half " ... number 4 shirt in old money . I called myself a right half when I played based on him being my fave player. Bought my first ever pair of football boots from his churchgate shop. Was really disappointed he wasn't in the shop at the time. I have his autograph somewhere. My mum was a waitress at the Chetham Arms in turton and it used to be quite a popular eating and drinking place for wanderers players back in the day. I remember being thrilled when she came back with autographs for Terry Wharton, Gareth Williams , Franny Lee and Nat on a Chetham Arms publicity card. When his career went downhill John Byron became my fave player and I switched from right half to inside forward ????
  23. We made front page news of the Nottingham post newspaper Good Bolton pics too on inside back page .... Forest fans in general are a top set of supporters. Like us they have there idiots. People congratulating us on way back to car park ????
  24. I think you are being a tad harsh there. I've lived in Nottingham since I was 21 (I'm 60 now) . Forest fans are alright I know loads of them , they had some hard times like us , they have even had to put up with Megson and dougie as managers. Most have a soft spot for us . The atmosphere at the city ground is always good and the pre match "city ground all mist rolling in from the trent" is pretty impressive and far better than the "Manny road / sweet Caroline' we can muster. When I first moved here it was the start of their glory European era. Forest are no different to any other club. They have some dodgy fans just like we do , but they travel in numbers and are OK. I once travelled with a coachful of forest fans to a midweek fa cup replay at Burnden. Trevor Francis extra time winner. i directed the driver on a shortcut to the ground and the coach was bricked after the match ! If history is anything to go by we have a half decent record at the macron Reebok against them ... I think ! "History doesn't win you matches though ... it's players " ..that almost sounded like a cloughie quote. He would have sorted this poor excuse of a footie team out . Anyway my conclusion is forest fans are OK . County fans are too, but whether they will be when Nolan joins us as manager is another discussion !!!
  25. Good shout about the terrace , loads of people arriving at 14.55 blocking yellow exit paths , ignoring advice and guidance from stewards , standing in front of people who'd been there for 30 mins. I dread to think what would have happened in the unlikely event of us scoring first . The yellow path had no crush barriers therefore you get a domino effect and someone would get injured . It's a yellow exit path for a reason. Safety ! Even with terrace standing like in Germany I doubt the English fan has the attitude to follow the standing rules . Was that a rant ? On a separate issue nottingham forest season ticket holder at work told me forest refused a full allocation of tickets based on the 35gbp cost. They are running free coaches as compensation . He was going to come to Bolton on Sunday but said " you are robbing .... "
