I’ve always known a half volley as when you strike the ball immediately after it hits the ground.

This is correct otherwise every shot in tennis would be a half volley.

Which it isnt.

Ball needs be moving upward immediately after hitting the floor.

Don't think the direction of the ball matters, does it? If it bounces and you hit it as it comes back down, it's still a half volley.

Di-canio and Rivaldos were bicycle kicks as the motion is the same as riding a bicycle in and facing forward position. As if you were riding a bicycle facing forwards.

A scissor kick is mimicking a pair of scissors with your body lay flat as if your head was the handle and legs the blades. Facing backwards.

Same as a scorpion kick. Your body is the same shape as a scorpion.

No it's not. It's definitely got to be immediately after the bounce.  As Gonzo points out, like a drop kick in egg chasing.

Anyway, what's the difference between a bicycle kick and a scissor kick, apart from the former having to be where your back is to goal?

I've never read so much nonsense.

I'm going to have to google it. I've always believed a half volley is any strike after the ball has bounced once.

Edit: I googled it, and yet again my belief was wrong. I blame my parents/teachers/friends/TV pundits/brain.

Volley - hitting the ball while it's in the air from a cross.

Half volley - doing the same but as it hits the ground. If it's bounced, on its way back up etc it's no kind of volley.

I'm not aware of there being any difference between a bicycle or scissor kick.  They're both side on, as opposed to an overhead.

I've no coaching badges but I have played a lot of CM & FM over the years.

More controversy. Even if the ball is going UP, it's not a half volley now. What a minefield @Jol_BWFChas uncovered.

Volley - hitting the ball on the full without it touching the ground before it gets to you.

Half Volley - hitting the ball on the up immediately after hitting the ground.

Bicycle Kick - back to the goal with both legs in the air when hitting the ball over your head. No twisting of body to help with direction.

Scissor Kick - See orginal post.

Btw @Casino I rate that Mullery goal as one of the best I've seen. Fantastic!

So what's it called when you hit the ball after it's bounced and is coming back down?

So a bicycle Kick is the same as an overhead Kick in your view, a'la Dennis Tueart in 76?

I disagree.
