Sold a few already in the South Stand and there isn’t two together in the other three sides - could end up with 23-24000 whites on Quote

Fond memories of 1980-81 beating them 6-1 with a hat-trick from Brian Kidd, I had a great view of it stood near front of Embankment. They brought about 20 (twenty). Barely out of the 80s but we drew 2-2 at home against then in 90/1. We were 2-0 up at half time and they stormed back for the draw, Dion Dublin played and John Beck was there manager. They pipped us to promotion too, this was the year of the Tranmere play off final. Quote

Well spotted, yes I remember that game now you mention it. They were a really tough team to play against under Beck, with Dublin as you say. My first visit to Cambridge was another night game against them, Friday night, 2-2. Robbie Savage goal in front of away fans and a late equaliser from them. I was designated driver in my Vauxhall Chevette and we were still in a pub in Cambridge at midnight. Quote

Yes closing the upper tiers was going to improve the atmosphere apparently! On another note, what's all this about needing memberships to buy tickets? I bought 4 yesterday and no mention of whether I or they were members. And that's been the case every time I've been to the ticket office, although I'm only normally after 1 or 2. Quote
Lostock Whites Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 We will average 20,000 every week in the championship at the absolute minimum and regularly hit 24/25k with sold out away ends against the bigger clubs rather than Accy, Lincoln, Cheltenham etc and 90% of League 1. They are just some numbers, but a real indication of where we've come from, astonishing stuff, long may it continue ! Quote

They were back when we were shit and people didn't want to come and watch "their" club. Dead easy come and watch us when we're winning, no prizes for the lads who went to shit like Swansea, Cardiff, Reading, QPR, Ipswich, Norwich, Coventry (at Birmingham), Bristol City etc when we were in the dirt and no-one gave a fuck. You're a keen bean and I love it, but Championship gets very boring when you're mired in it season after season. A lot of them places get old quick, trust me. Quote

Seen pricing in the championship thought them days was over? preston at QPR today £36 then Swansea few week £33 It will be a novelty for a season or 2 but especially on the road folk will be done that il wait for the next one Quote
barrycowdrill Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 I gave up caring about what league we were in a long time ago. I just want us to be competitive in whichever one. the positivity from and the growth in our following is purely driven by the success we’re having on the pitch and the feeling that no matter who we are playing and where we have a chance of winning the game. whilst promotion might drive a small initial increase in ST sales. Both our average “home” attendance and away followings would drop off pretty quickly if we’re in mid table mediocrity. Quote
Lostock Whites Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 We should and always will have due to the size of the club and our history, be aiming to be in the top flight and that is fine. But also we haven't and I certainly haven't experienced us a top/mid table team in the championship, getting some good cup runs on the way. Since relegation from the Prem, we had that 1 season under Freedman which we bottled on the last day Vs the donkeys Then since then our financial problems started and things just kept getting worse and worse until league 1 and league 1 One thing is for certain though, we aren't a Reading, a Birmingham a Bristol City, we tend to not spend too long in each division. I seen a stat that we are the most promoted side in history and that we have been in the top flight in every decade - This keeps me optimistic! Quote
