April 25, 20233 yr No mention of it near us. It’s not like the Silver Jubilee in 77 when just about every street in England was closed for a party. My dad and our neighbouring ‘older folk’ were instrumental in the 77 celebrations and it was all done for the kids (although there were a lot of pissed up adults in attendance! Anyway, my dad, an ‘older folk’ was 17 years younger than I am now! Fucking scary!

April 25, 20233 yr Going to pop along, they've got screens in the royal parks so will go down to one of those. Then going to HMS Belfast later on. The Queen was a symbol of our last imperial age and the second world war. She'd been there all our lives and was symbolic of another time - she was a figurehead because of the time she lived through and the duration of this. The British liked to see this reflected back onto them. Her funeral was always going to be a siesmic moment in this country's history. In contrast, the coronation of an elderly man isn't going to fire the imagination in the same way - it doesn't really herald in a new age as he won't be around long enough. The coronation of his son might be different - a true break with a certain age and true modernisation of the crown.
