The Managerial Roundabout

Shrewsbury potting Cotterill is an odd one,

Spurs possibly seeking a new manager around Christmas, not sure how he will do.

Gerrard to Leeds is rumoured.

Uri Geller to Wigan?

I know he’s not a manager but Standard Liege fans seem gutted we’ve got Fergal Harkin to the extent that some are saying he saved them from relegation despite having no budget. Sounds positive.

  • Are you serious? The guy brought us some fucking brilliant moments  that we’ll never forget. Yeah, it didn’t end up great but ffs.

Only lost 1 in 6 as well but its been turgid, I've been subjected to almost every minute theyve played under Dyche and it's been horrendous even when they've won.

Still think he'd have kept them up though.

He's terrible mate.

Only getting jobs because he's got a funny voice at this point

Mad thread, theyve become a Gazzetta Football Italia club

Danny Murphy discussing them last night: he said that in part the bubble has bought the club, and therefore it's his to do with what he wants.

That only goes so far too- clubs in effect belong to the fans and they pay the money to come.

Piss them off, and it's only going to go one way.

well yes, he has, he got them back in the PL and kept them there (so far), and into Europe

even chucked that much money at it, it got them a fine for breaking the FFP rules, which didn't affect them either

just looks like it's all going tits up right now

which was inevitable really one way or another

Once he overstepped into the realms of the manager, and team talks, then he starts undoing all the previous good work.

I thought previously he did well by keeping on Cooper as long as he did in the face of bad form and criticism when Cooper was trying to establish them

But now he's had a whiff of the top four last season seems he's lost the plot and wants to find someone to get them back their

Dyche will be the new Big Sam, only taking firefighting jobs for the next 10 years. That said, I could see him going to Saudi for a bit.

Do they sell pints of gravy in Saudi?

Aye, lauded as the hero returning home. Interesting to see how it pans out

Its unbelievable how small some of the clubs are that Bury play (not the right thread I know).

My son lives in Liverpool and likes to watch a bit of non league with his mate if not watching us (his mate's girlfriend is from Belgium and loves going having never been to a pro game).

So they either go to Bootle or Lower Breck.  Their home ground is a leisure centre in Anfield, and not only do this tiny outfit play Bury in a couple of weeks, they are top of the table (Bury 2nd).

It would be crazy if Bury don't go up this season when they are getting 15 times the crowds of the other best team!

Forest were one of the few sides i enjoyed watching last season, they were refreshing to watch in the dogshit world of tippy tappy noncery.

It'll be piss funny when Nuno sends the cunts down.

Thomas Frank to Palace is a perfect fit.

Aye.

So long as it's made with Halal goat or camel stock.

not convinced about Frank now

was right man at the right club for Brentford, who continute to do well, but proper failed at Spurs, reckon he'd struggle at Palace too

reminds me of Potter, did great in a great set up at Brighton, then nothing at Chelsea and West Ham, whereas Brighton carry on doing well

Spurs are an odd club.

Not sure why any up and coming youngish manager would fancy a bash at them in particular.

OK, can understand taking a gamble on Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea for example- they have had relative success in recent years.

Reckon he'd do OK at Palace, so long as there is no great pressure. Unfortunately, given they sold some of their best players, and the manager openly said they hadn't done enough to replace them, there may be additional factors that would need to be aired beforehand.

Not disagreeing, but that makes it hard to make a case for a lot of managers doing a good job.  Did Eddie Howe and Areola do good jobs at Bournemouth or was it all down to the club having a good stable set up?

Whoever replaces Pep will still have them in the top 3 and fighting for cups, its difficult to say Pep's done a great job, how can he not with that set up?  Whoever manages Fulham will have them mid table, no higher and no lower, assuming no internal meltdowns as happens at some other clubs.

Once you get established in the Prem its difficult to get yourself out of it if you've got sensible owners, the managers just pass through maintaining the status quo and keeping the money rolling in.

Howe did a good job at Bournemouth and has done another good job at Newcastle, no doubt he's good at his job

Areola did a good job in Spain, he too has a track record

it's more specifically about Frank and Potter as managers and those specific clubs they've managed

I'm just saying I don't think Frank will emulate the job he did at Brentford elsewhere, and compared it Potter not being able to emulate the job he did at Brighton elsewhere, they strike as similar standard managers at similar clubs

Yes, Howe clearly a really good manager.  Areola top class IMO, could do it at a top 4 club no doubt.

FWIW I think Frank is a proven decent manager too, he didn't just have a couple of good years at Brentford it was about 8 (he only came over as assistant to Dean Smith originally, I hadn't realised that).

He's had a bad half season at Spurs blighted by a ridiculous injury list, and clearly his style of play isn't a good fit for Spurs, I don't know what they expected.  Got them near the top of the champions league group table although that doesn't seem to count for anything.

Not saying he'll be a top 4 manager but he'll be a Prem manager for many years IMO if he stays in England.

On Potter, I'm just not sure!  Doesn't come across as a football manager, seems to be a great student of the game with loads of intelligence and obviously a good bloke, I just don't see him as a manager type.

People said that about Ferguson in 2013!

Guess it's just a case of wait and see

I had money on Brentford going down as well

So did I 😀  And the odds were so poor for Sunderland to go down I had them to finish bottom at 2/1.

Still time, it was a double with Bradford to go down, it could go to the wire.

I had Luton to win L1 too.

Fair point.  I'll rephrase it, City will be competing in the top 3 post-Pep as long as they don't replace him with Moyes, Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, Ten Haag, Van Nistelrooy or Amorim.
