Isn't that to due with them being outside the city boundary and Notts County is in, or could be the other way round 

I think it all might be because, in this country I can only think of Port Vale and Arsenal whose name doesn't include the place or area they are from 

So the media do it as if you might haven't heard of them otherwise

I'm bluntly told "that's just not our name!" Even though they play in Nottinghamshire and Notts County play in Nottingham. Weird people weird place.

They were founded and originally played in Nottingham I suppose.

Sounds like they stretched a bit beyond their limits maybe in preparing for this season? I'm a bit out of touch with mates over there at moment so not tracking it as closely as I used to, might make it easier to get hold of a ticket again at least!

And both of these teams, originally included their area name: Burslem Port Vale and Woolwich Arsenal.

Marseille and Lisbon as above.

Partick Thistle (draw and loss in 76/77 Anglo-Scottish cup)

Druids (2 draws and a loss in 1882/83 FA cup)

Queens Park and Forest Green are both, admittedly very small, areas of Paddington and Nailsworth, respectively.

The Bolton equivalent would be to start a team in Morris Green, and retain the name Morris Green having made league status!

Yes but the river is the boundary 

One is in the city of Nottingham 

One isn't so in Nottinghamshire 

I did an article for 442 years & years ago called 'Where the *heck* is Stenhousemuir ?" basically running around Scotland & it's clubs. Geography mixed with a bit about the grounds & history & strips.

Apart from a dozen or so their names and cities are not obvious, even when they are all too many Scottish towns are fck knows where.
