Like the Italy match last night - amazing goal but they weren't massively pushing for it because they were pretty much through.

This match was a dead rubber really. 

Doesn't mean the performance is excused though.

Stones has spent 2 years stepping into midfield for one of the best club sides we’ve ever seen. Did he even touch the ball tonight. Playing with 4 at the back and 2 in front of them was just ridiculous. We basically had no misfield.

It's a total lack of jeopardy that's taken over club tournament football as well as international, keep as many teams (and their money streams) in with a sniff for as long as possible.

Have to try very hard to get knocked out of these now. You can fuck your entire qualification group up and still get in via the Nations League! A 2 year qualification process and a fortnight of a tournament to whittle 24 teams down to... oh... 16 😂

Getting to the finals was and should be glory in itself - to play against the other best teams in your continent or the world.

As you say, more teams, more money. Like most things the administrators ruin what was glorious in the first place.

Top of the group, not even hit 2nd gear yet, still the favourites to win.

Agreed, and you can see how some of the teams were just happy to be there. The chaff should be sifted out in qualification but that process is being carried on into the second round here.

I'm already wound up about WC2026 and it's ages off yet 😂 48 teams, 4 games a day across multiple time zones and a round of 32 after the group stage.

Imagine how bad some of them teams who'll get through to that will be.

Most dangerous we were was when we zipped it about quick and made runs of each other - it happened twice. Next to no movement up top during most of the game
