I'd hope there's a gentleman's agreement in place to leave Charles out of this one

No way, Thomason to launch the sulky tosser...

You can't do that, but I wouldn't bet against him coming down with a little niggle during training the day before

That's what I meant

it all sounds gentlemanly but does this ever really happen? can't think of any examples with us

if we're happy to sell Charles to Huddersfield they should be able to play him when they want

if I was Duff I certainly would if I think he could make a difference to the result, and wouldn't give two shits if Bolton didn't like it, and if I was Charles I'd want to play and score

Sarce was "injured" for the FA Cup match against us

Unfortunately, we drew 2-2 and so he practically had no option but to play in the replay (the first but sadly not only time we've travelled to Edgeley Park and conceded five under Evatt)

Yes it does.

One of those "tap the nose" type jobs. Nothing written, nothing argued.

Clearly, not every transfer will be conducted along those lines, but you could spend years trawling through many transfers where the two clubs are due to play each other shortly after the deal has happened.

We tore up his contract so we weren't in a position to make any demands as to whether he could play or not

If we did, he'd have been injured for the replay also

I'm not convinced

Why can't they just make it part of the deal?

If all Huddersfield's strikers get injured next week and he's the only one fit what should they do

Given they've just paid 750k and want to win

We tore up his contract between transfer windows specifically to allow him to sign for them that very same day

It was a transfer in the only way it could be done at that time

From memory, Doyle practically gave the game away re. the agreement when he was interviewed in the BEN after the draw at home

EFL rules prevent any official agreement

But why did they have no option but to play him in the replay if he could just as easily pick up a niggle again

A minor niggle that miraculously heals in time to play the next league match is one thing, a second minor niggle a week or so later that coincidentally also miraculously heals in time for the next league match would be taking the piss with it

It has happened many times.

Pundits have made jokey comments about it on occasions.

As before, it depends upon the approach of both parties.

Absolutely.

It only happens if there is the coincidence of both teams playing each other within a very small time frame after completion.
