Or it illustrates how far ahead of every other league the English Premier League is? English teams, including Chelsea, won two of the three European club competition. The so-called powerhouse, PSG, actually showed little dominance against English teams. They needed penalties to beat Liverpool (the best English team) scraped past Aston Villa (who finished 6th in the Premier League) and were given a game by Arsenal (who had previously beaten them in the league phase, where PSG finished only 12th). PS: The trophy was presented by the President of the United States. Your political beliefs are not relevant to a football conversation.

No more of a joke than a team finishing 4th in their own league winning the 'Champions' League. I agree with you btw.

July 14, 20251 yr I don’t think you can read anything into this. I’m fairly convinced Inter and Man City decided they’d earnt enough and went home. Im not sure they can pass this as a success. I’ve watched it and out and really don’t see what it brings other than financial reward.

Cue loads of shouts of 'too much football' & 'exhausted players' ... but it was about £90m for winning it.

The whole point of it is to help FIFA wrest control from UEFA I do think that in theory the concept of a Club World Cup could be genuinely brilliant

The World Cup is sensational for the same reasons. From the Battle of Santiago in 1962 to the Antonio Rattin incident to the 1978 Final to Germany humiliating Brazil on their own patch. Enthralling stuff. Just not sure how this could work other than abandoning either all or some of the Champions League and Copa Libertadores and replacing them with this? Not going to happen is it? Europe and South America mentioned. Let's be honest, that's what it's all about. The rest is just fol-de-rol. People have been telling me since 1974 that it won't be long until an African country wins the World Cup. Still waiting.

See I just don’t. Bet like the intercontinental cup and stuff. Money will change it but I’m not sure FIFA would empty the vaults every 4 years to host it. I’m not sure it’s done enough to capture media attention to get the big guns to sign up.

Saudis have it next time, money won't be an issue. They bunged a billion dollars to Dazn so they could bid a decent amount for the TV rights. ITV offered £0 and it was still the best offer they'd had. Even then no one subscribed to Dazn for it and they had to strike a deal with Channel 5

I doubt it'd remain in its current format for very long I think the long-term plan it to shape it into the same format as the CL and have it replace it

Bit like cricket- trying to milk the cow too often. Whether they actually want a world super league who knows. Bag o' shite for me.

July 14, 20251 yr Fans reacted against the idea of a European super league, including those of clubs expected to be in there. Cannot see any circumstance where that attitude would change, especially when such a tournament goes beyond Europe.
