  • It’s been clear since about minute 5 of the Stockport game that SS has put together an excellent League One team.  7 games in and I believe been the better team in all 7. Only one defeat. I’ve ha

Hoping we offer a new, lengthy contract to Conway very soon. Been quality. Also like his temperament, lost count how many times he was fouled today, just gets on with it.

Yes, temperament is outstanding, got chopped down several times, goes back for more.  Takes all the tough challenges from seemingly stronger looking players in his stride.

Great win. Clean sheet a bonus. We had about 3 more gears if we wanted but spent a lot of the 2nd half just playing at training pace - more goals would have been nice but a combination of us taking it easy, them actually defending pretty resolutely to be fair to them and a bit of bad luck meant a comfortable 3-0 was perfectly good enough.

Not much to really be taken from the game but I’m still of the opinion that Forino has to be 1 of the 2 centre backs - even just Wimbledon’s big sub that came on caused GJ all sorts of problems.

Thought Randall started by getting in really good positions but then failing with some simple passes which was frustrating. He really came into it though and you can see that he’s clever - that moment in the first half where he megged their centre mid and played a perfectly weighted through ball to Gale with the outside of his boot showed what he’s got. Hopefully the goal gives him a shot of confidence!

Morley had a great game. He’s a different player with better players around him. He’s got his chest out, sprinting around, bossing things. Him next to Simons works very nicely!

JDC is very much the weak link. He had as bad an opening 30 minutes as you can have without doing anything obviously noticeable (I.e own goal, giving away a penalty). He got better in the 2nd half but it was all too easy by then. As soon as Christie is fit, I can’t see it taking long before he takes the RB slot.

Random one for the day - Marlon Fossey was in attendance.

There were times today that I found it tedious and other times I was on the edge of my seat.. the result was never in doubt and when it totally clicks and SS has worked out his best starting eleven I think we’ll be a real force. The defence still gives the opposition more opportunities than it should but I think finally we have a squad that will/should get us out of this shit league 🤞

Get in. Conway MOTM, Morley put some lovely deliveries in, Randall operated well, wingers were continuously asking questions & Burstow is just a very decent striker for this level hopefully the lad isn't injured to halt his great form.

Not to be picky and I know he scored a tap in but that was the worst I've seen Burstow play.  Gave the away cheaply a few times and control wasn't great.  Can't really remember anything impressive he did other than the goal and a nice pass out wide to start the move for the 2nd goal.  Generally he just seemed off his game today.

I still do not think it has totally ‘clicked’ yet.

The big difference today is the newly promoted team made a couple of stupid mistakes (Well the number 11 did).

From there we bossed the game as much as we have against other teams without the need to chase the game, as we had not given a goal away. But a goal v 10 we should be dominating.

Would have liked to see us see the game out better and put at least past them.

We have so many good players for this level rather than team of big strong efficient players like most other teams in this league.

There are real signs that we are not far off ‘clicking’ and next 2 games are bigger tests. Get anything at Orient and then beat Wigan and it starts to look like a decent start to the season.

Burstow was poor. Conway was good but not worthy of the mega praise I'm seeing here. Duberry was electric

If your striker gets a goal and an assist every game he is more than doing his job.

And you also got to see TSL make a proper save 🤪

I'll be honest I genuinely can't remember it 😀

I remember him diving at the feet of that player in the 2nd half (don't know why he didn't lob him with a bouncing ball and TSL off his line) and good handling from crosses.  There was one from the long throw at the start of the 2nd half if that's what you're referring to.

Great distribution as usual.

On the other hand if you score in the 1st minute does that mean giving it away for 89 minutes is acceptable?  Its reasonable to assess an overall performance and not just look at a goal.  McAtee scored at Barnsley, nobody said he should start games based on that.

FWIW Burstow didn't get an assist.

And I rate him, a good signing, just wasn't at his usual standard today.

But it was not all he did.

I know in terms of fantasy football it is not classed as an assist but as anyone who watches football would he contributed massively to the goal.

He was fine today. Subbed after 53 minutes, leading the line with our formation is a pretty thankless task.

I remember one awful touch on the halfway line. You send in your post ‘not to  be picky’ all I am saying is I think you are being

Thought Gale had his best complete game so far, he's really starting to show what he is capable of.

Has a good cross on him and is probably the fastest player I have seen in a white shirt for some time.

Exciting stuff.

It was noticeable today that both wingers went outside their man rather than cutting in.

In the first half Gale went flying past his man from about half way.

I think the fact ACD had gone outside his man earlier made his goal easier as the defender was covering both ways, amazing how easy he made the finish look.

If he hadn't been dragged back at Stockport when on for a certain goal he'd have had 5 in 7. The form of the mystical 20 goal striker. He also played a part in ACD's goal.

SS was hoping after the game that the injury that forced him off isnt bad. So am I. He knows where the goals are scored and gets himself there. We haven't had his like for some years.

Sadly it's just not working for McAtee, there's lots of the season for him to do something but personally I just don't think he's good enough.

The guy has a great attitude and works hard, but that's not good enough when aiming for promotion, his quality with the ball has been so poor.

Even today he comes on and he just can't sort his feet out. Other games bringing him on for impact and his touch or pass is just poor.

He's our player for now so I will continue to back him and hope it comes good. But some players you just know if they have it or not. And at 26 years old I don't think he's just suddenly going to acquire all the technique he's been missing.

You either have it or your don't.

Anyway for now that 10 position is Randall's and I hope that goal gives him the confidence to kick on now.

Personally delighted for when Demps comes back. That man deserves a bit of luck to come now.

He’s a wrongun.

By the way - if we don't go up this year then I will be amazed if Max Conway is still with us next season.

Super little player - looks super comfortable at this level - like an old head who has been playing there for years.

And some of his work at bringing the ball forward is Bradleyesque. Probably not as quick or as forward thinking. But if we could bring through a player of his calibre every season - I'd be over the moon!

Lots of folk had a go at our youth development in recent seasons, but Conway looks like a pro comfortable at this level as does Inwood and the lad Smith who stepped up - all defenders so maybe that’s our specialism?

Not sure we had a go at the development, more the pathway of getting into the first team.

This was clear from the early days of Evatts tenure when he over looked the likes of Politic and Darcy  and picked his own players ahead of them..........yes they were no world beaters but a improvement on that initial first batch of signings brought in.

In the five years after apart from George Johnson  nobody broke into the first team..........Maybe nobody was good enough we will never know.

Darby and his team have done a great job in bringing this current crop through.

I for one am glad the clamour for him to get the managers job was ignored by the board.......He is a major asset to the club where he is now

It could be argued that Dennis Politic has been playing at a higher level than us - Dinamo Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest - for a few seasons now. Darcy, meanwhile, has been playing in the same league as us for the last two seasons, although he has just gone on loan to a League 2 club.
