I didn't think Johnston was any different v Wigan than any other game this season.  There are better players, there are worse, but his display against Wigan (first hour) was what he does.  

The debate is surprising given that there's nobody without faults - and qualities - to replace him.  We don't have Bergsson or N'Gotty waiting in the wings, they are all decent L1 defenders who bring different playing styles, and I'm happy for SS to make the calls.

If a player has a bad game or even just gets caught out once in a game he gets pilloried by some fans. If he has a good game or moment he’s suddenly the best thing since sliced bread. And if the team get one good result against a mid table local rival we miraculously become the best in the league. A sense of proportion is sadly missing in some folk.

Not sure which thread it was mentioned in, think it was this one. Said that anyone of our first choice midfielders would get into anyone others midfield in this league.

Are they actually watching the other 23 teams? Getting a bit giddy there I think.

Think, for example, how during a transfer window names of players I've literally never heard of get thrown around and suddenly it appears other clubs have had 'hidden gems' all along, hidden in full sight. I give you Erhahon for example.

Lincoln had him, Roughan and Taylor (all be it on loan) come through and leave last season or so

True, but they aren’t necessarily “hidden gems”. Over the course of a season we get to see just about every player in the league in action, both in our own games and the weekly highlights of the others - more if you’re obsessed like me - but whilst you can recognise traits in a player like pace or control or finishing, they’re playing in League 1 because they don’t deliver every week so it’s a lottery anyway. Erhahon is not a bad player but was a good shout for us because we were desperate for a ball winner but he wouldn’t have the same impact in other set ups. Was surplus to requirements at Lincoln because they’re playing a different style.

Good tool to have in the box though.

Third place at the moment but they probably won’t be there much longer. Teams often have a strong start but then fall away as injuries kick in and expose the thinness of their squads and that will happen to Lincoln.

Port Vale were second after 8 games in 23/24, ended up going down (not suggesting Lincoln will go down)

Hard to make a case for them dropping points away at struggling Posh this weekend but you never know. Equally hard to make a case against most of the teams above us dropping points for that matter.

Lincoln held us at home and we needed an 97th minute OG to get the draw plus they narrowly won away at Northampton so maybe tomorrow’s game will give us an idea of how we compare? We saw first hand how they can defend a lead.

I think Northampton are similar and Nobbys diamond are likely to drop deep if they nick a goal so I reckon it’s important we get an early lead - again 😀

Spot on. Again, the reason why looking at a table before the 10 game mark is fairly pointless. Performances over points until that point, which is why i'm so convinced we will go up (more so now than before the season)

Birmingham were 2nd on NYE last season and won the title at the biggest canter ever seen. Squad depth comes into play from Xmas onwards (which we also have).

Lincoln will do ok, but hovering around the play offs is as good as their season will be i think in the long run. Bradford will also fade. 

I'm struggling to see beyond us and Cardiff at the moment (i even have my doubts about them).

Our biggest risk comes from an injury to Gale / ACD (or an ACD recall)

I agree in a lot of what you are saying here....We have been in this league now for five years .Each game a player or perhaps two catches your eye from the opposition. I have only seen Erhahon have one sub-par game when he got sent off here last season.

For at least the last three seasons i banged on about him only because he was exactly what we needed.

Flip that over on the other side Simons took Morley spot in January and he went unnoticed by me so yes there can be players way better than what we have in other league one teams.

By the way Erhahon was never surplus to requirements at Lincoln. They had been trying to extend his contract for the past two seasons, and in the main if you read Lincolns Forum when we signed him they could not believe he had gone to another league one club and they were certainly unhappy with the fee they got.

Really need the three points this weekend by any means necessary. Get an away win in the bank and the confidence will start building. If it's convincing even better, teams will start shitting playing us. I wonder if it is finally starting to come together, whilst it was against kids tuesday even the back up lads knew what they were doing and were they were supposed to be which suggests that the messages are starting to get over. Onwards and upwards boys, HMS piss the league and all that 😁

Given the very average start we had to the season we need to string 2-3 wins together and this run of games, given we won the last one is a great chance.

Northampton are better than last season so no chance it will easy but we have to with a positive but not complacent attitude. 
 

To compete for promotion you need a run of wins and not so many good performances than churn out only 1 point.

I'll be doing my accumulator later and go on I'll make a case for them dropping points. I think Posh have won their last 2 and are traditionally strong at home. Lincoln had the distraction of a huge/tiring game v Chelsea in midweek. I'm going for a "surprise" home win.

And while I'm at it, Bradford won't beat Blackpool 3 days after going to Newcastle, ditto the others that played Prem teams on Wed, I think it was Huddersfield, Port Vale & Doncaster.  (If this doesn't happen I'll blame the refs/luck/crap defending before admitting any error on my part).

I think anybody can beat anybody at the moment as teams settle in new signings and get any injured back. The tables never a reliable indicator at this time but the cream always rises to the top eventually. There doesn’t seem to me to be an outstanding team at the moment but I think now that our newbies are getting used to each other I think we could soon be it. No disrespect to Northampton but we really should be beating teams like these if we genuinely intend to be pushing for the automatics and I have every confidence we will so 0-3 to the mighty Wanderers.

I think we have got better week on week, last week was both the icing on the cake and a look at what we will see for the rest of the season.

The only game we have lost was at Stockport and we had three changes from that starting line-up with the one that Started against Wigan   Gomes, Morley and Mcatee started against Stockport but Gale,Erhahon, and Forss are a step up.

To have players like Toal, Taylor, Christie ,Sheehan, Morley, Cissoko, Mcatee, Randall and Dalby not starting and Dempsey, Tutu and Forrester all not starting even the most pessimistic of our fans must start believing we are going in the right direction

Agreed. Given our slow start, we’re in need of a wee run.

No need to panic if it’s an away draw though. But looking at our next 3 games, there’s a really good opportunity for 9 points. 7 (even 6) from 9 wouldn’t be too bad either. 
 

Going into the Hud & Cardiff games in the top 6 would be ace.
