Interesting set of fixtures coming up

Northampton aren't bad but you've to to fancy us

Then Peterborough and Burton who currently two

3 wins would put us in good stead as it's Huddersfield and Cardiff after that

Time to start building some momentum

Shane Burton might get postponed

What has he done wrong ?

Oren Pho, Gas St. Pretty decent.

Son # lives in Northampton, as close to anyway, does Zulu of this site.

Another town hollowed out by out-of-town shopping mall around it.

Lots of similarities between Northampton and Bolton. I’ve lived in the county since 1988. It’s a great place, once you get to know your way around.

Don't think anyone on the pitch tonight made a case to progress into the starting line up for Saturday.

To be fair some of them need more game time in their legs.

Millers definitely improving

Yes I agree I thought Miller looked really good, composed, confident and resolute and his handling was excellent. Granted he didn’t have that much to do but what he did I think he did well and his handling was assured and excellent. I still don’t think he’ll get in before TSL but at least we have a capable back up just in case. Apart from him only Christie looked anywhere near a first choice with Taylor disappointing greatly.

One things for sure, saw nothing tonight to suggest taylors travelling for this one

He’s not fully fit yet by the looks of him but he could be a sub if required. The worrying thing is that Forino was worse when he came on and  two ridiculously dangerous cross field passes that gifted possession in key areas was a particular concern. Morley’s passing seemed off it too at times but we got away with it against the kids.
Not sure what Schumacher will do. He tinkered with the team and system to find a great combination to beat Wigan and he may well do so again to try to beat another mid table team in Northampton - after all, his “horses for courses” approach and general flexibility is the most praised aspect of the difference between him and Evatt. That said, some of those who have trotted out that line are now saying he shouldn’t change having found a winning combination against the Pie Eaters.

He has a big, largely fit squad to pick from nowadays and has form for changing systems so we”ll just have to see what he decides to go with against Northampton and hope he gets it right again.

Have to agree although Demps showed some class when he came on and will be in the mix when he’s finally fit and Christie was quality for the most part.

We all have our favourites and players have good days and bad days but three supposed contenders - Dalby, Cessoko and Randall - are still to show anything other than being adequate squad fillers/back ups. I live in hope.

The game was over within 25 minutes or so.

You could see from the players' reaction to the goals that the game wasn't as key as the league, and it is perhaps no surprise that a number of performances weren't as good as they may have been.

Christie seems to have been a class above, but I'm confident that if needed, these players are capable of stepping up- even if not as good currently as the first choice players.

McAtee and Randall have had first team chances of course, and maybe the former showed enough to get a place back on the bench.

Aye, if it was about taking the opportunity to get in the match day squad McAtee earned a place on the bench at Northampton

Same team for me. All last night was was a good run out for some of them, glorified training.

Biggest surprise last night was that the one player to play from Saturday was Johnston - puts my suspicions that his head injury was more genuine than he gave away to bed. He was just keen on giving corners away in the last 15 mins!

2-0 Burstow in the first half and a late Dalby header.

What i think Schumacher learned from last night that  Firino is not as good on the left. Our best two centre backs at present are Firino and Toal  yet none can move Johnston from  that left sided slot and from last night showing Taylor is still a way behind......So for me it is those with the shirts at present. Same team

Agreed. I'd love to see Demps on the bench too but maybe give him another week of training before putting him in a league matchday squad.

A lot of folk want the same team as the Wigan game. I assume that’s based on the performance or players they like in certain positions - and has nothing to do with the opposition we’re up against?
It’s just I get the impression that Schumacher devotes a lot of his time and energy analysing the opposition and picking a team and system accordingly.

Northampton are a completely different proposition to Wigan so if SS did make a couple of changes I wouldn’t be surprised despite last night’s selection. Probably won’t but we’ll see.

Last night Northampton went 343 - perhaps because they were playing against kids, but that apart Nobby has gone 3diamond3 all season.

Maybe it’ll be a case of which manager flinches first?

Forino played on the left at Stockport and struggled for me, better on the right with a natural left footer beside him

I feel really confident about this one, which isn't like me - I think we'll have a bit of swagger about us, whilst being confident we can handle to rough stuff with the right line-up.

3-0 to the Superwhites

Suspect it'll be a lot longer than a week until Dempsey's back in the matchday squad.

Forino is not and never will be a left sided centre half he looks clumsy there and I am also not sure he suits a team that plays with quick forwards as he’s not that good on the deck.  However if we are playing a direct team like Northampton then he’s the first name on the teamsheet at right centre back.  If Johnno gets injured or suspended Taylor should play there followed by Inwood we have to play a left footer on the left side
