Port Vale (H)

What could possibly go wrong? Despite Darren Moore’s assertion that they are better than their league position suggests, all the signs are that they are there for the taking on Saturday and I can’t imagine any of us would not be disappointed with anything less than 3 points, especially after our recent heroics.

As the old adages go, it’s 11 against 11, any team in this league can beat any other team on their day etc etc…but we don’t want to think about that do we?

What we want to see is an improved performance, a professional attitude, a clean sheet, goals and a statement win that sets us up for the theoretically tougher run of games ahead.

Bring it on.

That Christie interview is mint, he's got a good football brain and his experience will be invaluable.

Really felt sorry for Randall yesterday.

He's like watching a kid try and fit in with the big lads on the school field.

I really want it to work for him, seems an all round decent lad. Works his balls off and never moans or kicks back at some pretty obvious groans and moans every time something doesn't come off for him.

To quote earlier mantras, he's just not robust or dynamic enough.

Dempsey showed more guile and prowess in 10 mins than he did all game.

He finds space really well, but just never quite gets the ball off quick enough or drive in an around the box quick enough when the balls out wide.

Think ACD flashed one across the box in the first half and he was 5 yards off the pace.

He might still have a part to play but when everyone is fit he's way down the pecking order in that no10.

Evatt not that daft, unless his ego gets in the way and thinks he can prove a point.

Couldn’t make it yesterday - gutted but buzzing with the result. I was in the ‘just win’ camp, but winning by such a margin and in that way, and with other results going completely the opposite way, it was a massive day.

We’re flying now, season is off and running and I really don’t think we’ll be stopped. You look at where we are now, with an away record that can only improve, with a defence that has only just started to look firm and with players like Dempsey and Christie (to some extent) now being fit enough to add to the squad and improve the starting 11 where required, and I just don’t see how we’re stopped.

Big caveat is ACD remaining with us and fit. If he does then we win the league IMO.

Without knowing how Burstow played, even without a goal and from only seeing the highlights, I thought his centre forward play for both of ACD’s goals (especially the first) was top draw.

Bradford is a huge game, but they’re coming to us having not won in 5 whilst we’ve won 4 in 5. Big statement win and could go top of the league with Stockport away at Wimbledon (although they’ve fallen off a cliff so maybe a bit optimistic).

It's great to see the confidence and the belief in the team now, the first 20 minutes vale really went for it to get that early goal 2 good stops by Tsl then the opening goal for us and  everything changes, onwards and upwards, up the football league we go!! The league is ours for the taking!

It was interesting that he mentioned how hard a few different lads train, given some of the stories about players fucking about under Evatt that is a great sign

I agree with a lot of that. He can clearly play but in our system it is hard to see where he fits in. Burstow, Dalby and Big Vic would be ahead of him for the centre forward role.

He ain’t a wide player but Tutu, ACD, TG and Cisoko are ahead of him. Cisoko did well yesterday.

So that leaves the 10 position he played yesterday and Forss and Dempsey look better options, chuck in McAtee and I make him 4th in line. He does have little flashes and must have no confidence so he takes an extra touch all the time.

He is not shit but seems very much a square peg in round hole for us.

On the ball across the box, it is unfair to expect the deeper player to get there, for me it is the wide left player that should be coming in. I had no issue with him in that but the prick behind us was berating him. Very harsh.

Not sure about this sympathy for Randall. He's been given ample opportunities to show what he can do and failed, totally. He seems like a nice, possibly too nice a lad, so what? He was fortunate that IE wanted him and is being well paid, given 3rd tier wages. I'd be interested to hear SS explanation of why he has had so much game time recently. He's keeping better players out of the team and need to go on loan to Mr Evatt in January, yes please!

I've a feeling he could be sold in January.

Wonder if interest in the Celtic lad will be ressurected

O'Neill seems to rate him

He's started all 3 games under him scoring 3 goals

Not sure I’d loan Randall to Blackpool. Many people thought Blackpool had a strong squad this season and would be challenging, but they had an awful start.

To his credit, Evatt has fired them up and they’re starting to get some good results. As we have shown, half a dozen good results can catapult any team up this league.

If Blackpool come in with decent cash then fair enough. But I’m not for loaning anyone to a potential rival.

Can see what you mean, this league table could look vastly different by the New Year than it does now and I'd expect Blackpool to be in the top half of it.

It's a very low bar but I thought he did ok yesterday, took up some good positions, worked hard and showed a few nice bits of link up play but Dempsey showed how someone more robust can make much more impact in that area of the pitch.

He'd look good for somebody like Exeter or Northampton but that's about what he is, a bottom half of this league player at best

I very much doubt Randall would have scored the goal that Dempsey did yesterday, he wouldn't have got there to get a shot away.

Said it from the start, Randall is just not a Bolton type of player.

He gets pelters from a fair few in the crowd for absolutely nothing. Unfortunately some of our idiots have it in for him whatever he does. Still needs moving on in January though.

I see where you're coming from, but we're doing well largely without him.

Not much point if he isn't getting loads of game time, and we can ship him out and another in.

We are looking upwards now, keep doing well, and what goes on below doesn't matter.

Indeed if Blackpool take some points off our nearest rivals, then that's a bonus.

You're right, he wouldn't have. Dempsey also presses and wins us the ball back more, couple of robust tackles in his first five mins on pitch helped rev us back up.

That boat has sailed now. We had a slight chance in the window but had to settle for Dalby.
