paulhanley Posted March 2 Posted March 2 If you are anything like me there is a little list of pretty significant games in the history of the club for which you were present but which for whatever reason you cannot wholly remember. Yet here we are on a forum full of people with long memories, people who will remember different events/angles/slants on a day having been of a different age/not had several pints beforehand or simply just have better recollection. I am going to start the ball rolling with a game of my own but invite others to follow with matches from the past that they saw but would like to have their memories supplemented. 9 September 1978 was the first Bolton Wanderers top flight win for fourteen years. After a memorable promotion under Ian Greaves we had not won any of our first four matches (W0 D2 L2) including shipping an excruciating late equaliser in a 2-2 home draw v Birmingham the previous week. On this day we were losing 0-1 at home to Derby but eventually won 2-1 with two late goals from Alan Gowling. All I can remember (sitting as a kid in the Manny Road North with family) was Gowling wheeling away in celebration in front of the Lever End. I remember the feeling of excitement and relief afterwards that we had finally picked up two points (not three in those days!). Anyone remember more? ...And does anybody else want help from fellow fans with filling the gaps on a game from the past? Quote
deeane Koontz Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Atletico Madrid. Couldn't even see the pitch, basically made my mate commentate to me Quote
gonzo Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Spent a long time thinking we'd drawn 2-2 v Blackpool away when it was actually 4-3. I've lost swaithes Premier League games, especially post Big Sam. Quote
tomski Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) All Paul Warhursts goals for Bolton. Other way though. I can remember them but they didn’t happen Edited March 2 by tomski Quote
RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Battering Newcastle when Keegan was playing for them...83?...... missed all the goals by either going for a piss or a pint on the Burnden Paddock. Quote
gonzo Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The Oxford debacle has been lost as well. Think blocked out in PTSD fashion and maybe 4 rushed pints of Stella before the game after drinking all day hasn't helped. The goals are a blur. My main memory is Ireldale walking to take a corner in last ten minutes like he was having a stroll down the beach. Then strangling another Bolton fan and making my kids cry. Quote

Krimzon Posted March 2 Posted March 2 BWFC 3 Burnley 0 when Seamus scored . The only thing I can remember is his goal and now Im not sure if im remembering a the goal or a memory of it . Quote
Duck Egg Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Notts Forest at home 76/77 season. My dad used to pop me on the fence on Manny Rd north and watch the game himself further back on the terrace. Not sure what happened that day but after my dad left me, there was no room on the fence anywhere. I ended up standing in the middle of all these blokes one of whom said "there's a little lad here who can't see anything" - he was right. 90 minutes of looking at a blokes coat sleeve and cheering along when we scored. Neil Whatmore apparently. Quote
Dr Faustus Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Other than the score I have no recollection of Stoke at Wembley Quote

We were 2 up in the 1st half playing into the wind attacking the Embankment. Seamus bagged his in the 2nd after several near misses. Quote

Dr. Feelgood Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The Hull away game whete McGinley went goal. I got arrested after about an hour & frog-marched into a portakabin police station outside the ground. It's a good story. I believe we won. Quote

MancWanderer Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Fulham at home when we got promoted to Div1. All I remember was the Burnden Paddock singing ‘We Are The Champions’ and loads of flags and scarves. Remember that like it was yesterday. The actual game? No memory at all. Not one jot Quote
SatanGreavsie Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Can't remember as much as I'd like about Besiktas, but that's because, like many there, I was cunted! Torquay wanky cup final. Wasn't even bladdered, but very little recollection. Wish I could remember more about the Blackburn promotion game, but it was a long time ago! Main thing I can recall, as I was on the side terracing, was looking at our away end and thinking I'd never seen any one as packed out. Heaving. Quote
Alf Hartigan Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Guimares. Woke up in a chair in the deserted square with an egg cracked on my head and ticket missing. Stumbled to the ticket office and they sold me a ticket for about 3 euros. Got in the ground and fell asleep again on the gangway. Woke up to cheers following Vas Te scoring and then fell asleep again for the last few minutes. Fuck knows how I made it back to Porto which was about 30 miles away. Quote

I was on the Riverside that night as well, it reminded my of the Kop on a big European night on our end. I remember Frankie scoring, our lads scattering theirs behind the other goal and being on the pitch at the end Quote

kent_white Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I can barely remember who we played at the weekend by Tuesday Quote
BobyBrno Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) Wembley Stadium, 2011. I saw 4 goals. I never saw the 5th and never want to. Edited March 4 by BobyBrno Quote
Wanderlust Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) My memory is a sieve but I remember a match at Burnden probably in the 60s when we won 5-3 possibly a cup match, but I can’t remember who it was against. I had West Brom in mind but there’s no record of it. I do remember seeing Len Fairclough there supporting the opposition if that helps. Any clues anyone? Edited March 4 by Wanderlust Quote
