No way you'd hold Sheehans hand :)

I see Hardie is out for two to three weeks injured.  Glad we went for Kenny instead two goals three assists works the channels very very well.  Not sure Hardie would fit in this team

I'd be about a foot taller than him for starters

  • 2 weeks later...

2 home wins and a point at Bradford I think would be enough for 3rd spot and that home game 2nd leg.

Bradford would have to win their other 3 remaining games to finish above us, Stockport would have to win 5 of 6. They've got 6 games in 17 days on the back of disappointment of Wembley at weekend.

Huddersfield's result last night means they've got to come and win the game to have any chance whatsoever of sneaking in the playoffs, may well suit us on the break and I imagine that Kenny and ACD both start with that in mind.

Win this

have you seen who Stockport have got though??

Wimbledon Exeter away then 3 home games in Mansfield Peterboro and Port Vale with a final game away at Barnsley = I think 5 wins for them is very possible

100% achievable for them to pick up 5 wins I agree but 6 games in 17 days alongside some of the current injury worries they have means it's not necessarily as straight forward as it appears on paper.

Ultimately as long as we come 3rd or 4th there's not too much difference as long as that 2nd leg is at home.

When you look at who others play it always looks easy for them; arguably you would think that Luton will win their four before playing us. And Plymouth all remaining games with the exception of Bradford away.

Nothing is settled yet but three more points will at least ensure we are in the playoffs and that’s all that matters

No team is going 5/5 or 6/6.

It’s possible; unlikely yes but nothing would surprise me

They're not all going to win out and 4th is as good as 3rd to all intents and purposes so even if 1 had an unbelievable run it doesn't need to hurt too much

Let's just keep winning and it'll all look after itself.

If they're going to drop points in those, tonight is probably the one (whereas if we had Wimbledon away in the last 7 games we'd have been saying that's the 1 definite win!)

Also the Wembley hangover thing is only relevant tonight really, if they win they've moved on, hopefully they don't.

Hmm, wouldn’t surprise me if you’re needing to beat Luton last day to stop them sneaking in as the form team

I suspect it’s you who need us to beat Luton, rather than our own need. 😉

Got two tickets going spare ESU

Would be nice but sure you’d rather play Stevenage than a Luton team on that type of run

We were quite happy to be playing Oxford in the final, given the result a few weeks earlier. That worked out well eh 😁

To be honest I would prefer Luton didn’t get into the playoffs- the other would be Stockport. Think we would be promoted if them two failed to get in. Saying that I don’t think either would roll us over

Completely agree Re Stockport. Been saying for weeks that I do not want to meet them at all in any stage of the play offs.

They are the problem side. A bogey team for us but also a club on an upward trajectory with a carefully and pragmatically constructed squad.

When they played at Wembley v Luton I wanted them to win. Silly reason - law of averages would be that if they won that they would lose a play off final at Wembley. A load of bollocks no doubt ... yet somehow the way things tend to work in football.

Having said all of the above - we are really due results against them. What finer time.

I got slaughtered for saying Kenny would be the better signing at the time, and whilst he’s still a distance from being the finished article, he’s young and his running is invaluable to us. If only we’d been able to sign him permanently- especially if our lowball offer had been accepted. I just don’t see the same potential in the ones we did manage to sign, although Dalby is definitely coming good.

Can I remind you that we signed Dalby for nothing? Even if we had managed to snare Kenny for £500k (or whatever our final offer was) Dalby would still be the best signing of this, and many previous, seasons.

The only signings that come near, over the last few years, are the similar free signings of Sheehan and Afolayan. Maybe, there’s a lesson there.

Vagaries of the free, loan and fee paying markets, Dalby definitely a very good solid free signing, no doubt (on a Twitter post asking who were our best permanent and loan signings of the season I went for him as permanent and ACD loan).

No doubt for me also that if we'd got away with that bid for Kenny, or even anything up to £1m we'd be sitting on a big potential profit in a year or two. Capable for me of cutting it at least at Championship level or equivalent league in Europe
