Stockport County (H)

Beat these fuckers and I think we're definitely in the play offs - 3-1

On another note, just upgraded my grandson's ticket to an adult ticket - £28.00, should have let my mate risk it wit the junior ticket

We're at a crossroads and have been for a while now. It feels that when we lose a game, it's the end of promotion, manager isn't good enough, inquest on every player begins. We win like on Friday

  • For me, Sheehan plays every game he personally claims to be fit enough to play. He was immense in that second half yesterday, doing the work people don't think he can do. He blocked, pressed, tac

We didn't bottle anything. They're a good team and have been in the top 5 pretty much all season. Sure folk forget we are actually playing an opposition. They are our level and we are t

Sheehan saying he as played the amount of games in a week should get a lot of credit

Got to stop starting apter, he couldn’t give less of a fuck if he tried, offered nothing going forward and gave no protection to his full back, may as well play with 10 men.

Decent finish from their lad for our 2nd missed it live as I was having a piss.

Too many draws and why we are where we are.

Repeating the theme of a conversation with @Traf yesterday, its another draw but another positive one, because nobody could claim we deserved anything more even though we finished strongly.  These draws are keeping our heads above water (ie in the play offs) because if that games wasn't a draw it was a defeat, never was it looking like a win at any point.  Many times in recent years there's no way we come back and draw that (maybe we didn't today without a crazy OG).

Rodriguez did overhit one awful free kick, his corner wasn't the best but a right footer from the right wing is never going to get it as perfect as a left footer, or as good as Dempsey's first half corners from the left which were outstanding.

But RR undoubtedly played well, we all see things differently but it would be truly bizarre for anyone to claim that 20 minutes or so from him wasn't at a good level and was exactly what we needed.  We easily lose that game without him coming on.

The three subs coming on galvanised everyone but, rather than expected it being ACD who turned things, Rodrigues caused havoc in 5 minutes, they couldn't deal with him.

Another who's a bit maverick (a glorious ball immediately followed by a dreadful free kick) but a really dangerous wild card in that situation today.

But my point is, is that we have what we have right now and regardless of the faults, this squad can go and get promoted. In virtually all of the top 6 matches we have competed very well. Something we have seriously lacked in recent years.

Amidst the frustrations of today (and many previous days) is the view that most of our best performances have been in good games against good teams. Today, home v Bradford, last Friday, Cardiff home, Huddersfield away a few that come to mind.

I'll sleep on that positive thought 👍

As there ever been an update on forss ?

He's out for the season

A 'high grade hamstring tear'. He's had similar in 23-24 season.

Interestingly he stayed in Bolton for his medical rehabilitation, not going back to his parent club. He's out of contract at Middlesbrough in June. I wonder if anyone will risk him.

Someone will, on a free.
Small basic contract with bonuses for appearances/goals etc.

He'll have to take a drop in money.

I’d definitely risk him on a free if his money demands are realistic. We obviously won’t get Kenny and I’m not sure about Burstow so we’re going to have to get a couple in.

If Forss took a 50% pay cut he'd still be among our highest earners.

A strange one as on paper he should be more than good enough for L1, but he just wasn't.

Agreed, not sure why we're discussing getting him back, fine to sign players on loan who might turn out to be shrewd signings but let's not make the same mistake (with hindsight) twice.

Why not?  Played well yesterday, its not like he's been banging them in for fun, and clearly he won't be in Celtic's first team so where do you see him going in terms of level of club)?

Promotion or not will be the key, and whether or not Celtic, him and us think he could play in Championship.

They obviously thought L1 was an appropriate level for him for now, and it probably is. I think there's scope in him to go one level up, if he and they do we'd have to go up.

A lot of players are also happy nowadays to try their hand in a suitable level abroad, as with his Irish team mate Troy Parrott. He might think like that too.

I would of thought Kenny as been enjoying it here getting games to play for Ireland regularly he needs to be playing and scoring and that’s not happening at Celtic I think he would be interested in coming back next season he is still young and can  work himself up a few levels

Celtic turned down 750k from us for Kenny and wanted £1M, then he signed a new contract, so I can't see them accepting anything less than £1M for him unless they decide to cut there losses

because I can't see anyone offering £1M+ for him based on this season

so he's going to have to go out on loan i reckon to prove his worth at this or a higher level, or to force his way back into celtic's plans

He came with a great reputation but in all honesty we saw little to justify it. Could be all sorts of reasons for that but I wouldn't expect it'll be Bolton who take any plunge.

Kenny is 4x the player Forss is.

So refreshing having decent strikers who can do a bit of everything.

Hope not strengthening our defence in Jan doesn't cost us come the end of the season.

You mean the 3rd best defence in L1???

I really like Kenny, he makes some fantastic runs, unfortunately, Toal and Co dont release the ball quick enough to him. Loved his passion yesterday when he scored as well. I would be looking to bring him in permanently.

Likewise, think there's a good player in him. His pace is a real asset, one little burst he made, quite late on, just before he was taken off, was electric. Still a bit of rawness about him obviously but a lot to like too.

Get him on a pay as you play contract

Sorted

We've conceded the third fewest goals, that doesn't necessarily make us the third best defence. It also doesn't mean we have a good defence.

Since the start of November our wins to nil have come against Port Vale (24th), Mansfield (12th, had 10 men), Wigan (18th) and AFC Wimbledon (16th). The last of those was 12 games ago.

We're currently giving up nigh on a goal a game just by letting teams twat it in behind Conway.

Based on how we've played, we're not going to win the playoffs by getting a lead and holding onto it. It'll be by scoring so late the other team can do fuck all about it.

We want to be 2nd not 3rd.

Name me one serious player who is on a 'pay as you play' contract. Anywhere in the top 4 divisions.
