  • I'm not sure there was an expectancy of Simons as such, it's just that he was so impressive early on. His form fell off a cliff, but that early form showed there is a very good player in there. D

Saw a stat earlier saying we have conceded a 2nd goal within 6 minutes of the first, 7 times this season.

SS has put it down to the players immediately wanting to rectify the situation. I see it slightly differently and feel like we’re similar to a dazed boxer after a solid shot. Legs go to jelly, mind fuzzes over and they’re staggering around trying to compose themselves.

Whatever the reason, we can’t have many more instances of it

I see it exactly the same way as you. Panic sets in and you just know that if you can get through 5-10 mins then it tends to settle again.

I’d add the first 5 mins after half time to it. Not for the same panic reason but we definitely seem to take a while to get back into a ‘rhythm’ and just get a bit of composure / control.

Weak leadership/mentality at the back.

Toal & Johnston, captain & vice captain, both struggling to hold their own game together, never mind being able to rally/gee up the troops after conceding a goal.

Tbf we’ve shown more than enough times that we’re capable of coming back from a goal or two down

My preference would be to not end up in that situation in the first place!

Feels like a separate point though, Matt. I think both things are correct - the stat shows we’re vulnerable once we’ve conceded but what you correctly point out is that we then find a way to swing the momentum and get back into games.

I tend to agree with @Traf’s view on the leadership bit. Not sure Toal or GJ ever seem like they can project calm and composure at a stressful point, but there has to be some emphasis on the rest of them too. Hopefully it’s a non-entity of a point for the rest of the season as we never go a goal down for the next 5 games!

I'm convinced Eoin Toal has a proper panic disorder condition and probably should be on medication for it if he isn't already.

They’re generally the main protagonists of it as well. Panic stricken.

Guess it’s quite difficult to rally people and tell everyone to calm down when it’s you causing the issue

Yeah I’d absolutely agree that our comebacks haven’t necessarily been down to any particular strength of character, especially at the back.

Done well to keep going in attack on these occasions, but it definitely helps that the rest of the division are generally utter biz.

😂

I’ve seen and thought this!

3rd time in a few weeks I’ve laughed out loud with a bit of player bashing (something I’m not really into!)

Hope nobody has just looked in my direction - I’d be looking like a lunatic.

I’ve just tried to mimic his little panic gesture where he seems to sprint with fear in his eyes, blowing, with and his elbows slightly outstretched. 🤣

On a similar note, I noticed McAtee trying to calm everyone down after the equaliser on Saturday. Went over to celebrate with them of course, but was making sure they remembered there was probably another minute left to play.

He resembles Will of the inbetweeners when he eats all that Weed. “Mummy or ambulance” going round in his head

Any analysis of our conceding soon after scoring ?

Genuine query.

I've always thought he looks a bit like Neil. Nothing to do with football, just his face really.

Sure there is one 🤣 but I haven’t seen it

found this interesting though which supports @Eddie view

60% of goals conceded are in the 20-25 mins after half time with 45% within the first 15 mins

and we all sit there nice and comfortable after a decent first half then 20 mins later we’re all asking the question as to what the fuck has just gone one 🤣

Could be our back 3 - now I see why folk have been crying out for a formation change 🤣

Humphrys and Power will be looking to leave their mark.

Said this last week, some risk in a game v them on their threadbare pitch. It would have helped if we'd won on Sat.

I'd rather Stevenage be in the play-off 4 than Luton, who look a lot more of a goal threat. Stevenage will try and get through 1-0 and 0-0, we can deal with that, as we did last week.

Totally agree; they are the dirtiest team in the division and will target our quality

I haven’t checked whether they’re the dirtiest team in the division for a fact but they didn’t look it last night and in fact it’s Plymouth with more yellow cards I think so I wouldn’t expect them to go looking for our players. Surely any team will try and blunt players like ACD, Kenny and Ruben who are game changers but there are proper ways to do it so hopefully all the teams we play will respect that?

Toal just isn't very good at defending. Attackers walk through him and past him with ease.

He has been all season and much of last so why then is he both captain and virtually ever present? We signed young temple with a good reputation yet the lads not had even a look in so either he’s worse than Toal, however hard that is to believe, or the manager has more belief in Toal than we obviously do?

Oh goody 😩

Take the fat cross-eyed manc cunts ankle in the first minute and put the big mard bastard out of the game.

So depending on results our next 5 games could be

Bradford

Luton

Bradford

Bradford
