Strange time for an announcement - 11.15 on a Tuesday night

i wonder what everyone will think of them now?

I bet you still go to these daft kick off times matches though. I know the signs, the nearer and nearer it gets to the day of the match the more you will be itching to go, then the day before the match, or the day of the match you will start shaking and say f??ck it I'm not staying here while there is a Wanderers match on,and just head down to the Reebok or wherever we are playing.

Bolton are the first Prem club to reduce the price of season tickets.

Gartside and Allardyce are innovative in many aspects, on and off the field. Bolton fans are very lucky to have them.

Well done bwfc! but even if prices were frozen or increased i would still have got a season ticket, because i would still rather spend my money following the whites than pissing and smoking it up in a boozer that shows dodgy tv.

However,I think they could make some games free, and we still wouldn't sell out due to TV coverage/KO times but mainly due to the fact that we have too many 'fans' that are looking for any excuse not to go.

 

When we go down in a few years,I just hope the young fans we are gaining at the moment are'nt as fickle as my generation(i'm 38)And for the younger readers,we will go down again,whether it is 3 years or 15 years.

Hmmmm - I'm not sure Derby are a good example for catchment area. OK, here in Loughborough 20 miles or so away its mostly Leicester fans and they have Nottingham to compete with, but beyond them what? Chesterfield? Mansfield? No equivalent of ManUre, Citeh, or the scousers.

But the point about previous success is a good one and we also have to remember previous failures. Consider this:

if there's a Bolton fan who turns 18 on the 18th of next month then he/she was born on a day when we had a league crowd of just 3,505 against Southend in Div 3. Now we take more than that to Guimaraes or Marseille. That's astonishing progress and while of of course 18 years is a long time we need to keep in the mind the depths we plummeted to eg 6 consecutive seasons, 84-89, with average league crowds of less than 6k.

The bottom line is

there is no reason for Bolton Wanderers to expect to be getting bigger gates than they currently are.

The descision to reduce season ticket prices for next season by an average of 10% is not going to please everybody but at least the club have done something. They have accepted that football is very close to reaching a level where it is not affordable to the working man.

 

We will still get a few saying it is not enough and they will not renew. Like Alf Hartigan says, Some folk just need an excuse not to go.

 

So as 1 whose was having thought second thoughts about not renewing next season this has made up my mind. I'll def be there. In fact bring it on - Premiership for the 7th succsesive season and (prob) Uefa Cup tour again!!!

As well as the 10% reduction that they talk about, its got to be good that they are still offering season ticket holders the same terms i.e. early purchase discount thats great. We will definatly see a reduction. Not the scam that some places use that inflation has gone up but we have reduced the tickets but will still be the same price.

say 17,000 season ticket holders paid on average ??450 for 06-07.

 

That puts a value on this disount for 07-08 of ??765,000.

 

How much extra TV revenue is the club getting next season ??20M?!!

 

That means that less than 4% of this extra revenue has been passed back to supporters!!

 

 

The 10% reduction looks nice on paper and gets the club some good press but in real terms it doesn't amount to a lot. Something nearer 15 to 20% would be a real statement.

10% is a nice gesture by the club, its gives them a load of good PR (see the numberous places the story has cropped up on the net already) but it isn't enough to entice the stayaways back in my opinion. It won't be long until another Prem clubs (wigan/blackburn maybe) releases their prices for next season, and in my eyes they will be more generous, maybe 20%. In turn that will create another debate as why the club haven't done more.

 

There are lots of fans who won't return until prices are nearly halfed, and that just isn't going to happen. The vast majority of other stay-aways are looking for prices in and round ??20-??25 for a home game (not including the membership discount, as most people don't even know about it). The 10% discount isn't going to be anyway near that kind of price. Thus it will have little effect IMO.

 

For the record i'll be renewing, and would have whether prices were frozen or reduced. But i can't help but feel both parties (the club & fans) are looking at this from very different ends of the spectrum. The "fans" are looking for tickets to be slashed, where as the club are only willing to offer ??3-??4 quid discount per game.

I hope they bring all the tickets prices down, there's nowt worse than a sh??te away following to make things look worse than they are. Jackburn get huge followings at Ewood compared to what we manage at the Breezeblock, for example.

Depending on age boundaries I could have a season ticket for less than ??100 next season. Sounds good to me. Well done BWFC.

On the contrary I think It is a decent reduction for loyal season ticket holders who would have paid even had the prices been frozen. We should be commended for coming out first in the PL with such an announcement. Any further reductions would mean we have less money to compete on a financial scale with those clubs who will put all their additional sky money into player transfers/wages etc

BWFC are "giving you back" what they should have given you this year.

 

Season Ticket holders have always received "free games". This season ST holders have not received any "free games". So the 10% reduction is what you should have saved this year. It will be interesting to see the pricing policy for the non season ticket holders for next season.

 

23,392 is our average attendace this season so far. The 10% reduction is not going to boost our average to what it should be 25,000+.

 

IMO BWFC had a chance to fill the Reebok stadium for many of our future games. The reduction will not make much of a difference.
