When you hear the mess the club was in when he arrived what the club has achieved in the past 8 years is even more amazing.

No official comment, big new investor possibly at City, comments by "friends" to the media it looks to me like he is on his way. I have this nagging vision of Leicester City; look what's happened to them since O'Neill left :(

Having said that this season hasn't been much fun has it? Two great matches with Arsenal at home, the annual mauling of West Ham at the Reebok and those last couple of minutes at Blackburn but apart from that it has been pretty flat.

With the younger profile of the signings made so far for next season I was looking forward to Big Sam building a new team, but maybe, with the board making the right appointment, this could be a step forward for the club.

You've just said that!

Look, I'm one of his biggest fans but if he goes, he goes. Bolton Wanderers will go on and mean just as much to all of us. If he is going, I just hope his blunt BSA style will be "I feel it's time to move on to a bigger challenge. I am moving to Man City / Newcastle etc" No olb b0llocks about sabbaticals or similar.

Quite right Bolts.

In many ways, Sam is right about the apathy that seems to surround the club - he must be tearing his hair out. The atmosphere, ticket sales and moaning must make Bolton fans look like the most ungrateful set of fans in the world. Of course this isn't true and he reasons behind it all has been flogged to death on other threads. However, the guy must feel helpless in the face of said apathy and I for one don't blame him one bit if he wants a move.

It will be a sad day but like Bolts says - no-one is bigger than the club (though Allardyce wasn't far off - what size chest are his pants???) and we will live to fight another day.

And who knows - the next guy might have a plan B to get us up to the next exalted level?

Big Sam to go..................

One word, MINT....

Looking forward to trips to home park, layer road etc. next season you fat pie munching red ginger. Or are you like most of the "fans" at wigan-only interested when in the top flight. You bastards belong in division 4 - get back where you came from!!

Will my trip down beech hill/king street when you get relegated :yahoo: :drinks:

IF the bloke does go fair play to him. He does belong at a big club, look whats he's done at little bolton with no money and all the players he's attracted. At the end of the day he's given us european football and big names whihc we could never have dreamed of 15-20 years ago. Imagine what he can do at a big club, just hope he doesn't go to citeh. I'd just like him to be honest and not stab us in the back.

As for the future who will want to come to bolton who will be good enough to keep us at the dizzy heights BSA has done-errm... no one! Sorry but its downhill for BWFC if he does leave.

It's rare that i disagree with our favourite ex pat, however - i'd rather he just said "I've taken the club as far as i can" - that would be the only statement i want to hear from BSA

Watched their game yesterday and Wigan were fcukin atrocious. They are gone and good fooking riddance to em.

If he goes, he goes ..... but we do expect honesty from him & the Board. (Yeah, I know, I shouldn't be so fooking naive at my age). And he's done brilliantly for us by any measure, even if the football this season has been decidedly dull too often.

But all the same, with a major 1st team/squad re-build needed this summer, and the Academy squad/facilities build still not completed, he wouldn't be leaving us quite as strong as he promised. His timing could be better.

Just two other points. Most clubs have moaning fans with short memories - see how they wave the white hankies in the Bernabeu after a couple of bad results. And just because BSA has done brilliantly for BWFC with little resources doesn't mean he'd be a great success elsewhere with pots of money to spend; that's a different job, but there's only one way he can find out ....

Just a thought;

April - Sam says he wants a rest.

June - McLaren's England lose another qualifier.

July - England job becomes available..........

PH, i think you have hit the nail on the head, he could be just biding his time for when Mclaren gets the DCM.

After he had been poached here from Notts County, he signed his 10 year contract and he said he would see it out and then retire as he didnt want to kark it of heart attack if he gets past 55, for once it would be fantastic if someone actually saw out a contract to the end, lets face it, the club basically put a lot on the line by offering him a 10 year contract in the 1st place, for christ sake, do the right thing and actually see it out.

He has done a brilliant job.

He is still doing a brilliant job.

We would miss him if/when he goes.

But no one is bigger than the club.

I will wish him well and then spend little or time thinking about what it would have been like if he stayed.

I would much rather he stayed and we will be stronger if he does but if he goes we need to get on not shit ourselves.

Not wanting to make a knee-jerk reaction on this news so I slept on it. Unfortunatly I woke up this morning feeling the same - sad, angry and disappointed. Sorry Sam but I'm selfish, like yourself, and I want what makes me happy to watch Bolton Wanderers, and that is having the best man for the job at the club. Sabbatical is a great word to use but it's a word used by soap dodging students, not football managers who in my opinion are on top of their game. I am also disappointed with Sam in not sticking to his word and contract. He may be frustrated with the 'apathy' surrounding the club but as far as I am concerned there is no appathy from this computer or WSL Row M Seat 226 on match days. Undies very pissed off but life goes on, and so does my support for the club.

just say it as it is sam, bolton fans will respect you more for it.

If he is as big a man as he thinks he is he should come out the final game of the season like curbishley did and be honest with the fans. I hope he doesn't leave but if he does he has given us some great memories.
