Just read in the Daily Mirror that Megson wants Eidur on loan till end of the season.

Love to see it happen but can't really.

just been on news at 6 in talks

Did they say he was actually in talks, or did they just re-word Megsons news conference in which he said nothing like.

megson is on after the break apparently

As much as i would love to see Eidur back at the Reebok, i still feel we would need an out n out goal scorer also.

megson said, we wanted him before anelka left.

he's not sure we could get him. though we will try, but very difficult without pots of money.

If somehow megson pulls this off January will have been a good month, yes we lost anelka but the overall quality of the team has improved. That along with Diouf coming home early and a good win tomorrow will leave all looking positive for the run in.

Or......Sengal win 13 - 0 this week and go on to win the cup with Diouf away for another 2 weeks, Eidur tells Megson to fcuk off and we get hammered 4 - 0 tomorrow?

Dunster, ever the optimist. :drinks:

Any more news on this?

Txiki Beguiristain has admitted that signing Santiago Ezquerro and Eidur Gudjohnsen may have been mistakes as Barcelona did not expect their youngsters to flourish so quickly.

The duo have become fringe players at Camp Nou following the sudden rise of such talents as Giovani Dos Santos and Bojan Krkic and could be sold if a suitable offer comes in.

"There will always be mistakes because you have to have the players who are numbers 21, 22 and 23 in the squad," Beguiristain told RAC 1.

Barca's technical secretary revealed that while Gudjohnsen is confident of winning back a place in the side, Frank Rijkaard and his staff prefer to use the new kids on the block.

"Gudjohnsen believes that he still has a chance here, but at the moment the coaches are giving more time to Giovani and Bojan," he explained.

Neither Ezquerro nor Gudjohnsen have played a single minute for Barcelona this term and the Spanish giants may look to use the January transfer window to move them on.

"If Ezquerro and Gudjohnsen are not given playing time then we will have to look for a situation that suits everyone," Beguiristain added.

"What is clear is that if there is an offer then first of all we will have to talk to the player. I know that Ezquerro is thinking about playing abroad."

Gudjohnsen was linked with Manchester United over the summer and was also said to be a target of both Newcastle and West Ham.

Ezquerro has reportedly been interesting Premier League sides such as Everton and Bolton, but he was keen on a return to Athletic Bilbao in the summer.

The closer we get to 23.59 on 31st January the more likely this transfer will become.

?100k a week for 4 months is a drop in the ocean compared to the reduction in revenue next season if we get relegated.

Along with henrik Pedersen!!

Our 2 strikers

Eidur and Heider

the only man who can score 30yard crackers and miss from 2 foot out!

Captain Kev has proved particularly adept at this.

Some absolute screamers, but some close range howlers to go with them.

Most clubs only pay a % of the wages on loan as it benefits both clubs (I reckon 50% 50%) but there will be a loan fee probably ?2-300,000 to facilitate the deal

I think for captin Kev its due of momentary lapses in concerntration!!

Bolton news says we are "trying" to get in touch with barca

I saw that too and can't help picturing Gartside and Megson sat in an office trying to google barcelona fc for their phone number.

I'll be chuffed it this deal comes off, but won't hold my breath. Not sure if the he's the player we need. That said, if he comes he'll help lift some of gloom at the Reebok.

Bloody bargain

No reason why Eidur couldn't be an out and out goalscorer.

True, he's filled a different role at Barca, but then they can look to the likes of Eto'o, Henry, Ronaldinho and Messi for goals.

He's always been a tidy finisher, and I'd expect him to get his fair share from a more advanced role.

I suspect it'll all be irrelevant in any case, however.

Let's hope the fax machine is:

I don't think we'll sign Eidur.

But for what it's worth, if we did get him and in the absence of any other strikers being signed...

I'd play him as a support link to Davies, through the middle - it's that link between midfield and up top thta we've missed - you can then still employ Diouf out left, Nolan / Guthrie on the other side with Nolan / Guthrie and Taylor doing the hard work in the middle.

Eidur would be close enough to Davies to be able to benefit from his knock-downs and general hold up play and he should link up beautifully with Diouf and also bring the other midfielders into play - I believe then the goals would be well shared out rather than us being reliant upon a single "poacher"

You also have Campo for when we need a holding player and McCann / Stelios in contention too.
