Sweep
What must be acknowledged is that we have lost a lot of midfielder-type folk Stelios Campo Guthrie Andranik + AN other I can't recall, but have not replaced numbers to be fair though, Campo and Stelios had served their time, Andranik hadn't been fancied by 3 different managers, and Guthrioe wasn't that great. We did also lose Speed, but he was past it as well. All of those players needed to move on for various reasons. I agree we need some more players, but we should be signing players who can compete for the first team, not just "squad fillers" which is all I think Guthrie would have been

Site Supporter Ratwhite Posted July 12, 2008 Site Supporter Share Posted July 12, 2008 (edited) The reason i sugest the difference is due to thinking Guthrie was more attack minded with the ability to createwhere as you say, i thought Muamba was more of a break up the play midfielder as a strength! Of course to some extent both players can do both! as for attacking effectively, il wait and see... Dosent look half as creative as stelios! Add this to is dismal finishing. Better off without. Mounts Kipper
I think Guthrie will develop into a good premier league player, but he would need to have players with more strength around him, I am dissapointed we did not take a gamble at 1million. Zozzy
Never looked like scoring beyond his one goal in the League cup, which I can't remember anyway. It was one of Wanderers' goals of the season. Outside the box, top corner I was there :p
Moderators Casino Posted July 12, 2008 Moderators Share Posted July 12, 2008 he also scored a 20 odd yeard half volley for the reserves when he fist came to us hit the post at west ham from 20 yeards too ultimately he didn't achieve a great deal don't think he ever will shame, cos he's a little grafter

worthy10
For Guthrie this is a great move! Keegan could develop him and he may appear occasionally in front of all those "barmy fans without their shirts" I can't see him playing more than a dozen or so games for them in the prem. As I have said about him b4 on here and as echoed by others, there is no end product with him. He flatters to deceive. At first he is like a breath of fresh air, enegetically catching the eye. BUT on considered reflection what does he actully do? He doesnt score goals He doesnt make defence splitting passes He's not big or strong enough to be a ball winner. He can't shoot, take free kicks or corners effectively. He's not fast enough to burst through defences. Newcastle may have been deceived?
passmosster
[He doesnt make defence splitting passes He's not big or strong enough to be a ball winner. If someone could get him to look up before he passes a ball, he might be a reasonable player. Going to Newcastle probably isn't much of a move. They are my new season's surprise strugglers. no balls
For Guthrie this is a great move! Keegan could develop him Keegan won't last the season. I'll bet my favourite hat on that.
adambwfc
At first he is like a breath of fresh air, enegetically catching the eye. BUT on considered reflection what does he actully do? Echoes my feelings. Scored that cracker against Fulham in CC, played that great pass to Anelka against Chelsea that Cech saved with his arse, hit a post. But not much else, 1 goal, one chance and one great pass in 25 games. Poor contribution, and if anything went downhill at the end rather than improving! YATESY
One of the most frustrating players in a Bolton shirt for many a year. Looked good on the ball but as many have said, no end product. I got totally sick of the number of crosses - be it a corner, free-kick or open play - when he failed to get the ball past the first defender. Saying that though, he looked more useful than anything I have seen of Harper from Reading games last season.

Mounts Kipper
Most on here are being very harsh on Guthrie, our midfield was gash all season, and he did all Nolans running for about 5 months, the lad will do alright.
exiledwhite2
Saying that though, he looked more useful than anything I have seen of Harper from Reading games last season. Harper has a much better engine and much more physical presence He's capable of scoring goals and making runs past the forwards Guthrie could do none of that... pretty different players I suppose

whiteboy
you might as well compare torres with carragher different types of players in a midfield 3, along with nolan and muamba, who's your preference out of them lot? for the record i'm not really that arsed we haven't signed him, but i think some are being harsh on what he contributed last season
