Mark Davies - Signed

Megson moves in with surprise ?650,000 bid for Wolves midfielder Davies

Gary Megson has lined up a shock ?650,000 raid on Wolves for midfielder Mark Davies. Bolton manager Megson is ready to poach Davies from Molineux after tabling a firm bid for the 20-year-old on Thursday night.

Davies is currently on loan at League One leaders Leicester City, who made a ?300,000 bid earlier this week, but now he is bound for the Barclays Premier League.

Not havin a dig at you fruitbat, but your post raises an interesting point.

If people aren't bothered about relegation, or more to the point wtaching football in the lower divisions, then why don't the club spend some money and try and get some success, if it all falls flat, and we 'do a Leeds' as people are on here are quick to point out, then so what??.

If in 5 years Leeds are back in Prem league, and we have managed to cling on until then with the current management set up, who would have had the better time as fans??? It may not have been us in the Premier Legue land of milk & honey!!!

You are getting mixed up between what the fans are bothered about and what the 'Powers that be' are bothered about.

By this I mean The Club, including all the Players, Megson, Gartside, and most importantly Eddie Davies. To these people it is vitally important to have success. Premier league security is paramount.

This is why I can't understand why these people are criticised so much by Bolton Supporters. Surely 'Garty' and 'Gaz' Eat Sleep and Drink BWFC and have sleepless nights trying to find the best way to bring winning performances on the pitch, which leads to the Club winning Financially. I would hope the players have the same mindset as well, but that isn't always the case.

SIGNED!!!!

on ssn now

Signed on 4 and a half year deal. Undisclosed fee.

Very long deal in todays game, must obviously be highly regarded by the club and one for the future.

is this where the pie eaters say

fcuking shit - we've lost out to bolton!

Your right about the management Zoz.

But I would hate for us to have several more years like this one, out in early rounds of cup just surviving in the premiership. Becuase when we eventually slip out of the prem the only memories we will really have would be the CC final and two european qualifications.

Without some tangible success the seasons will start to merge into one, and if we don't strive for success then we may as well have some fun in the championship.

Having said that, I do believe the club has shifted its policy & will pay more money than before for young players with some residual value at the end of their contract, so lets hope they manage to get the players they want and we start to become competitive again.

Zozzy beat me to replying on this - but I'll post my thoughts anyway.

If the club spends money - and does a Leeds, then a lot of people will be out of pocket.

We are over ?50 million in debt - so whoever we owe the money too - will see precious little of it back. Eddie Davies has put in millions - do you think he would do that again if we went bust - I doubt it.

The banks would have lent millions - do you think anyone would give the new club credit after the old one as gone bust - in the middle of the worst credit crisis in history?

Leeds have been out of the Premiership now for five years and are below teams like Scunthorpe and Peterborough in the old division three. They too have no money and sell any half-decent player they might have - 19 year old Fabian Delph will be the next star they will have to sell.

In the next five years it is unlikely that they will be able to get back to the premiership - but even if they do we would (assuming we did not get relegated in the meantime) have received something like ?150 million from Sky during that time ? that is why generally speaking that the top championship clubs cannot compete with even the poorer premiership teams ? and often get relegated a season or two after they win promotion (Birmingham, Wolves, Derby, Watford, Sheffield United, etc, etc).

Clubs like Doncaster and Barnsley play in a higher league than the once mighty Leeds - would you really enjoy clubs like Wigan and Blackburn continued to play the likes of United, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc, week in and week out whilst we (in Leeds position) would be looking forward to the visit of the likes of Northampton Town or Hartlepool United?

Yes I know football ain?t much fun these days - but go ask Leeds fans or Charlton fans, or Leicester fans or Coventry fans, or Southampton fans, or?.. etc, etc, etc would they rather struggle in the Premiership or struggle in the Championship or League One - and I know what most would say.

For us this is about as good as it gets - we might scrape into the UEFA in better seasons or face relegation battles in bad seasons but anyone who thinks we can compete with teams who can spend millions every season on players are simply not being realistic.

The team that Allardyce led to the Premiership included players like John O'Kane, Ian Marshall, Franck Passi and Steve Banks - do you really think we could achieve promotion to the top league again with players like those - because that is what we will end up with if the club goes bust.

Like the rest of us, I don't like having to cling on for dear life in the premiership throwing cup games and games against the bigger clubs, just in the hope we might beat a smaller club in the following match but that is how it is these days - relegation would seriously damage the club financially.

Something is very wrong in football but until it changes we have no choice but to do what we are doing to survive.

Its on the Wolves site now. I hope he does well for you. I now hope that the second part of the information I heard is true, that Wolves have asked Chelsea to name their price for Mancienne. We live in hope.

He won't fit into a Megson team.

He's used to running forward, attacking the opposition.

I'm not sure Megson knows there are two halves on a football pitch.

if mancienne is as good as you lot think he is, that price will surely be way out of your league

ours too

Good luck mark - hope you become a great player for us!

he wont even get on the pitch so don't worry about that one.

Mark I understand why you would think that. BUT, I would like to think that the reason is that when he came here the defence was the real problem.

He has nearly (hopefully with the new lad, fully) sorted the defence now and is working his way further forward.

With either Nolan, Muamba or McCann in the midefield 3 next to him, he SHOULD have the freedom to get forward.

I hope so :good:

You are probably right, the only thing in our favour is that he really enjoyed his stay at Wolves. I guess our only hope will be a lone to the end of the season with an agrred fee if we go up. A big if the way we are playing at the moment.

only cheap because he's out of contract in the summer i beleive.

in contract then who knows what the figure would be?

I am only guesing but I would imagine that the fee will increase on appearances, playing for England and that type of stuff and will almost certainly involve a sell on clause. That is the normal way we do our business these days and why most fees are undisclosed, it is difficult to put a price on them at the time of the transfer. He would have cost a lot more if he had not been out of contract in the summer.

I'll buy that Eddie - good and positive for a Monday.

Can Megson get the goalscoring sorted out in the week of the transfer window that remains?

Christ almighty, stop using Leeds as a reason not to spend money, you'll be telling us not to cross the road because someone got knocked down once. It happened to one club. And as for all the other clubs who were in the Premiership and aren't now - it's because they played shit football, had a shit manager and were probably too busy "building for the future" and found themselves relegated.

Get a name in Gary, get them on loan if you want, make it short term. But put us back on the map, give us something to talk about in the pub, something to get excited about, something to give us a full house once or twice in a season, someone to remember "Hey, what about when XXX played for the club". Just do it to humour those of us who don't go to every game now because we think the whole football thing is a bit rubbish at the moment.

Sorry if this is a little bit too exciting for some people. Oh yeah, what if we did a Leeds....

Rasiak =@

Our local paper says that the fee could be worth as much as ?2m. I guess if he played a 100 games for you and was capped at under 21 and senior level the fee could become ?2m but I don't suppose any Bolton fans would mind that, he would still be cheap if he achieved that much in the game. Lets hope he does it will be good for both of us.

Fuck off you stupid cunt.

It's bad enough our own fans slagging Megson off, but Leicester fans? You're having a laugh.

Why would Megson buy a player, unless he thought he could make use of him.
