As an aside on Martins he has just earned a 5 k a week pay rise so he is upto 65 k say we went for him we would have to match them, for that reason I am out

That doesn't have to be true. he will no doubt leave them and go elsewhere, but whoever signs him won't pay him ?65K per week, they will probably pay him a large chunk of that, and then Newcastle will have to make up the rest of the wage (I think Leeds did something similar wirh Fowler when he went to City a few years ago)

Martins is definately the type of player we need to give us something different up front, whether we can afford him, a centre half, a right winger, a left-back and a ball playing midfielder is something I doubt.

A return to Bolton Wanderers could be on for Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

 

The Manchester Evening News says Bolton boss Gary Megson is thought to have enquired about the 30-year-old former Chelsea marksman last year.

 

It would certainly increase Megson's popularity rating if he could pull off such a coup though West Ham, Blackburn and Spurs have also been linked with Gudjohnsen.

maybe the current regime have realised that they could heal a lot of rifts with the signing of Gudjonsen. As much as it seems unlikely, this would win a lot of favour with the faithful.

The gist of my posting was : are we looking for a centre-back and, if so, has anyone any ideas who. Coz I haven't seen any signs of that yet, though I might have missed something.

I would be very suprised if that did happen, Robinson is signing as a back up left back and squad player, 1000% sure Megson would not be stupid enough to even consider that.
