Whizz Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Just highlighting the fact that we have seen it from both sides.
Carlos Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 It was winnable so long as you avoided Zenit. Chasing that dream didn't do Boro much good, or Leeds for that matter. What world do people live in?
Whizz Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 The problem is the following game. If we had turned Wigan over or even turned up there wouldn't of been uproar. If Wolves turn Burnley over, Mcarthy will get away with last night. It might be different if they don't.
Carlos Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Depends if Wolves fans are deluded mugs like some of ours. I don't care about them but the 2 I heard last night were supporting McCarthy. I've not heard 2 fans back Megson in 2 years, let alone consecutively. It's a marathon and it isn't all purely about 1 game. If they stay up, they'll be happy won't they? I doubt 2 years down the line they'll still be moaning anyway.
MickyD Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I listened to the same bit as you then on my journey home. In fact, one of them even accused the media of stirring it up against Mccarthy. He stated that the fans were, in the main, in agreement with a selection policy which puts aside any game unwinnable and concentrates the strength of the squad on games where there's a chance of a point.
Whizz Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Not moaning Carlos, just saying. If they get dicked on Saturday there fans will bring up last night. What's the wolf say?
Whizz Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 wolves fans singing "where is our first team" and "42 quid, to watch the reserves"
Whisky Face Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Folk still bang on about the Lisbon team selection as though our name was on the UEFA Cup. Never saw it that way myself. I always believed that we'd have lost against Rangers in the next round anyway.
MickyD Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 wolves fans singing "where is our first team" and "42 quid, to watch the reserves" So the Bolton News reports although none of the attending Wolves fans who spoke on TalkSport mentioned this.
Carlos Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 The Guardian reported "Even at the end they were singing both the team's name and McCarthy's, so it was hard to say they were angry or even discontented". It generally depends which way want to spin it, inevitably on here it gets spun into an anti-Megson thread. However, this seems fairer: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/20...ed-old-trafford
Guest Frandsen08 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 the problem is he has to go and get a result against burnley to justify his decision
no balls Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 So the Bolton News reports although none of the attending Wolves fans who spoke on TalkSport mentioned this. Some of the callers on five live did.
MickyD Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Just as we needed to go to Wigan and get one. We didn't and GM is still suffering because of that decision.
Carlos Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 the problem is he has to go and get a result against burnley to justify his decision No he doesn't. He needs to keep them up, that's how he'll be judged. Fat Sam played weakened teams in multiple competitions including the UEFA yet is lauded as a modern day saint, no one even remembers the games after them. Indeed, did we not lose at Wigan days after he put a weak team against Plovdiv?
Zico Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 the performance against wigan may have been guff but am sure we wouldn't have got the key results against spurs and boro away in that run in had we played Thurs-Sunday it was about more than just the wigan game

Zico Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 From memory alone, I always thought our league games Sunday after UEFA generally we did well under Allardyce. aye, but then again we never got to the 1/4 final stage under him or had uefa games amid a relegation battle
jolly-olly Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 As it is a squad game, I would like to know who decides what a full strength team is? I see Wolves have been asked to explain the team selection. In that case, why are the so called big 4 never asked to explain why they completely change their teams on a regular basis? The only difference is that the top 4 clubs have quality squad players but teams like Wolves and ourselves do not.

Traf Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 In fairness to the top 4, when they make 5+ changes for league games: they have 5 other regular internationals to bring in. Therefore, it still passes as a strong squad. If we played: Al Habsi Hunt, Ricketts, AOB, Samuel M Davies, McCann, Basham, Gardner Elmander, Vaz Te That'd be a different story.

Hunt would still only be on the bench for me.

Guest bwfcdan Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Where as i on the other hand would have Hunt in the team above Steinsson and Ricketts because he's better than both of them..
