I think the way he was trudging round the pitch at the end today says he is off at the end of the season. Same with Steinsson.

i thought the same, but im sure if seen him wander round at the back before a couple of times.

The oracle that is the BEN saying all 5 out of contracts JLS, Ricky, Cohen, O Brian and Robbie Blake are being let go it's a shame for Ricky who has been a fantastic servant for the club but IMO it's the right decision I'm sure he'll get a club and more regular football at a lower level

If it's true, I'm gutted for him.

It just worries me that Cohen and Gardner are atleast good squad players. We had to bring in a lot fresh faces without adding cover for these to the list. A given that Ricky has been injured for large parts of the season but could atleast be part of our small squad.

i though steinsson was out of contract?

So did I but he has a one year option which has been taken per previous threads I just hope playing through injury has been the reason behind his poor form this year

At the very least, should have a testimonial.

Never tried at LB or left midfield by OC so no surprise as he has never has been or will be a central

midfielder......can't understand why he never got a testimonial though because he definately deserves one , end of an era .Good luck Ricky.

Telegraph say the same

Very strange that he picks players he is dumping or who are dumping us

Absolutely gutted.

Although he's not the player he once was and lacking abit of quality. To get another player with his versatility is going to cost money that we possibly dont have.

I dont understand the decision considering how thin our squad is.

You've got to replace all these players just to get back to the point we are at now (paper thin squad). It's a bit mental really as Cohen and Gardner will be on about 3 and 6 a week.

Not to mention keeping some continuity in the squad.

Strange decision.

Though (in Gardner's case) it's hard to depend for cover on someone who is so injury prone.

It's like the conversation we were having about Ward, we need to bring in a shit load of players. That's difficult if they are only being brought in as cover and by definition they aren't good enough in the first place. The other option is to bring through kids, kids who haven't been good enough to sit on the bench before, even when that was empty. With SKD and Jussi on their last legs it all just makes no sense to me.

Good news. The only one i'm not 100% about is Gardner, all the others are dead wood who don't have enough for a Premier League team. There are another 4 or 5 regular first team players in addition to Elmander I would be happy to see go.Realistically both full backs and Taylor and Petrov can't be moved on in the same window as these 6 though.

Probably an indication of how many free transfers coming in. Freeing up wages.

What makes no sense genuine question? Coyle can do arithmatic knowing if he's let 5 go with Elmo 6 probably sell Cahill 7, sturridge 8 he will have to replace them all - Garty said on GMR yesterday that coyle wanted to work with a squad of 23 including 3 goalies which didn't make a huge amount of sense to me if I'm honest but I think coyle is looking to improve the quality rather than the numbers - the 5 released players and Elmo can be replaced with better players on our budget in my view if coyle didn't think that he would have offered them new deals of the 5 released I bet they've not started 5 league games between them so by defination if he did nothing we'd only be marginally worse off

Why would any team need three goalies in the squad? The league has allowed teams to sign keepers outside the transfer window in the past.

Posted

23 players with 3 goalkeepers, so 20 outfield players. 10 start, 6 on the bench. Take 2 long term injuries, 2 slight knocks and you are back down to the bare bones. Unless we go down the 2 keepers on the bench route again?

I honestly am not sure if Owen has done the basic maths.

If we go with a different keeper next season maybe whoever gets the job won't react the way Jussi does once a season and earn himself a red card.
