smithills_gent Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) I would prefer to have quality outfield players rather than quantity.15 good ones on PL wages is better than 23 average ones on lower wages. At the moment we have about 5 or 6 good ones and a lot of the others. Edited May 23, 2011 by smithills_gent
MickyD Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 But you'll never get through a season with only 15 decent players. The reason Chelsea/United, etc manage is because the back-up players are as good as the ones they're replacing. That's the massive difference between the big clubs and the rest.
Guest bwfcdan Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 If thats what we have to look forward to next year were fucked.... He is fucking awful....awful six years ago and even worse now... Wasnt it around 6 years ago he was in the premiership team of the season? m
Guest Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Wasnt it around 6 years ago he was in the premiership team of the season? m of the half-season (in the Telegraph) he was out injured for the second half
Casino Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 15 good ones on PL wages is better than 23 average ones on lower wages. we did that this year
Matt Lofthouse Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Gutted for Ricky, thought he would get another year.
LodgeMorrWhite Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Would be a real shame if that was his last game for the Wanderers, hardly a fitting send off! He is not a CM but could still do a job at LB or LM, as a very competent squad player. He has given Bolton the best part of his career and contributed to some of our best moments in recent history - Goal against PNE in the Play Off final and the first goal in Munich being my two highlights.
Traf Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 do we know whos deffo been released now then? Gardner, Cohen, JO'B, Blake & JLS. Elmander going to Turkey.
Traf Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I find the Gardner/Cohen decisions puzzling to say the least. Gardner was sent on loan to PNE to get game time and match fitness after a long injury lay off. He was promised game time on his return to have the chance to earn a new deal. IMO, he has been one of our better performers since his return and a one-year deal wouldn't have crippled the club. Cohen was a useful squad player earning peanuts in football terms and would have been good to have on the bench.

Managers dont renew the contracts of players they feel they can replace with better players is it not as simple as that? Take the romance away from Gardner and the fact Cohen was pretty much a complete stiff - what they earn is irrelevant I'd play for free but I'd be shite.
Traf Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 No romance involved, mate. Re-read my post for the reasoning behind my opinion.

DC08WFC Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 From Marc Iles - "rumours of Bibi's release have been greatly exaggerated... heard some surprising contract news but keeping my trap shut (for once)."
HomerJay Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 rumours? i thought BN said the club had announced it?
DC08WFC Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Think the BN just said they expected the 5 players to leave.
Gonk Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Someone from either the BN or Tower FM put it out on Twatter yesterday. It was then reported on the BN as fact
DC08WFC Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 WANDERERS are set to announce the release of five of their out-of-contract players today. Ricardo Gardner, Tamir Cohen, Jlloyd Samuel, Robbie Blake and Joey O?Brien are not expected to be offered new deals to stay at the Reebok. More an assumption than fact.
richbwfc Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 So it turns out that talks are ongoing with Gardner over a new contract. Blake has been given another season. Whilst the other 3 have been released.
Werder barmen Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 So it turns out that talks are ongoing with Gardner over a new contract. Blake has been given another season. Whilst the other 3 have been released. Robbie fucking Blake..would of preferred Cohen to stay
Rembrandt Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 So it turns out that talks are ongoing with Gardner over a new contract. Blake has been given another season. Whilst the other 3 have been released. Explanations on one side of A4 paper, please. Please ....... I don't understand it myself.
Zico Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Explanations on one side of A4 paper, please. Please ....... I don't understand it myself. He keeps spirits up in the dressing room with jokes and anecdotes, apparently
Rembrandt Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 He keeps spirits up in the dressing room with jokes and anecdotes, apparently The players need to be cheered up every day ? That inspires confidence. Couldn't we get a comedian in now & then at less cost ?
awandering Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Blake is Coyle's man in the dressing room, probably not on the highest of wages, and wouldn't be suprised if he is being lined up for a coaching role. I guess whether Gardner stays will depend if he wants to be a bit part player or go elsewhere (Preston?) and play regular football. Hopefully whatever happens a testimonial is offered. As for Coyle wanting a 23 man squad, it isn't much lower than that allowed by the Premier League so don't have much problem with that, especially as I think there are a couple of youngsters close to deserving a chance and they won't be included in the 23.
Krimzon Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I heard something similar...that Robbie Blake is going to be given a coaching role soon-ish so if we are keeping him on for that capacity why not have him on the playing squad just in case he is needed. Not my opinion on the reasons for him staying on but I can kinda see the logic in it. As for Ricky its good news for me that negotiations for a new contract for him are ongoing but no way should he play centre-mid, Id have him on the left over Taylor anyday, just hope the club doesnt suddenly change the offer at the eleventh hour ala Okocha and Djorkaeff.
