Why in recent years, across Europe and in the UK, have wildfires been much worse than ever before? By worse I mean - burning more land, more destruction, moving faster, etc. etc. Because we've not really seen a rise in the things that cause fires. Less people now smoke, there's no evidence that more arsonists are knocking about, but aye disposable bbqs were a bit of a hit - but still not enough to suggest more fire causes are around. Stopping the fires/sparks/stupidity in the first place will surely be more effective. That and reducing emmisons would be even better but let’s be honest is that going to happen anytime soon? So let’s try and stop the fires, now I know some people seem to think it doesn’t really matter where/how they start but it obviously does. You can have 1000s of acres of the driest land for years and it’s highly unlikely to burst into flames. You can have 1000s of acres of land that have been dry for a week or 2 yet a small spark would have it alight in no time. Quote
