Breightmet Boy Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 They're supposed to hold surgeries where residents can go to them and discuss any issues. Dunno if they do or not. They all do in Breightmet. Area Forums are poorly attended yet all the help you need is there. All top people you can air your views to attend these meetings, from councillors, Police, Officers from some depts of the council. You can talk to them Face-to-face or just carry on moaning on here. Its up to you and how much you care I suppose. Quote
Casino Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 last time i contacted my councillor, he gave me the number of some useless bint at the townhall her voicemail said she was off til some date or other said date was about a week earlier than the day i called i've had a boss who would have sacked me for having an out of date message or no out of office turned on anyway said flexiabuser couldn't see why my wife couldn't take our youngest to school - the alternative being a 2.9 mile walk along wooded, muddy paths at the side of a river at gioing to and coming home from school time - ie in the dark so out of fcuking touch, its unreal and said councillors reply...sorry, but they have rules fcuk off just, fcuk off Quote
Whites man Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Credit where it's due, the farmers market & a stroll down to Chorley New Road to watch the Ironman was an enjoyable afternoon. Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) Had a meeting in town today and got my times mixed up, so had a wander round to kill time...It really is in rapid and noticeable decline - shops must be shutting every week. Today I noticed the greasy spoon on Newport Street precinct (the one that always seemed to have Eccles cakes in the window), another place that seemed to have been around forever, had shut down The rot of the near deserted/empty old Market Hall seems to be spreading into the Market Place proper, a lot of units empty in there now. I wonder what would happen if Debenhams or M+S were to pull out of the town centre? Is there not some sort of by-law to prevent all these Payday Loan shy-lock shops springing up everywhere? It's disgraceful and depressing and in future I'm not going to be such a masochist, by taking a promenade On the plus side, The Cattle Market seems to have had a stay of execution. frank_spencer Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Just been for a mooch round the food festival. Beef patty from the Jamaican stall outside Alliance and Leicester on deansgate was top notch. Cider slushy from outside the O2 shop was good too. The Chili Jam Man nearly killed me and my mate with some concoction he called 'Ginger Ninja'. I've never had owt as spicy. Quote

Carlos Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Looks like Williams BMW has gone, that was the only thing left proping up that end of town. No word from the BN as obviously it's not on Churchgate. Quote

Spider Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 The Mini bit did, thought they'd kept the BM bit. Not really, Williams kept that as somewhere to flog trade ins and for servicing. Not making any money so all shifting to burnden. Town is dead, long live town Quote
Traf Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 They could turn the Williams place into a massive poundshop. Quote
Carlos Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 It would be out of the pricerange of people round there. Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 It says a lot that it's took Carlos so long to realize, it shut up shop ages ago, but there's no real reason for anyone to venture into town - hence it takes nearly 4 months to even register... Ye olde pastie shop and Bella Pizza - if they ever go, than that's it, they've been going so long they're like the canaries in the cage. What's going on? Had to venture into our Town Centre yesterday, Cattle Market has bit the dust, The York was shut and on Bradshawgate, all the block from the Bookies on the corner to the old BMW place is empty (Including The Leena - no great loss, the new indian restaurant up the road is good). Over the road the news stand that's been there since forever has also shut up shop. Perhaps the declining sales of 'toddy mags', due to the internet, was the final nail in the coffin? Is this sommat to do with the new bus/rail interchange they're planning? It's going to be almost as welcoming as the current 'Gateway to Bolton' (you know, the one way street leading out of town...) It's embarrassing when the likes of Bury and even Wigan, are showing us up as a right shithole. Quote
Boxie Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Noticed that La Tasca had shut, when i was in town last week. Shame really, there are hardly any restaurants left in town now.... Quote
overseas Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 when i was last in bolton a few months ago, i was horrified at the disgrace the town centre was in. . the buildings are in such a bad state of repair they want knocking down.an utter tip. it was clear most of the better shops had moved away to nicer towns. this is what the council has done with its parking fines, rates, criminal mismanagement and all sorts of other council mess. i will never return there again.
