Whites man Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 On his day an exciting player but probably the right move for all parties. At the weekend he continually played fancy liitle balls in, at about 5 mins left with the ball at the corner flag he stood on the edge of the Sunderland box bemoaning his luck when a pass went astray and it took Andrews shouting to get him to press. Garrp Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 exactly where i am at do palace play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1? proper 4-4-1-1 using the two most out and out wingers in the league and two defensive midfielders which makes it a bit suprising Quote
kent_white Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 He was great in flashes, but not often enough for someone on his wages. Think it's a wise decision, especially if it frees up some cash. If by letting Petrov go, we get to hang on to LCY, then I'm happy enough. Quote
Sweep Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 whys mears and knight still here then? For them to go, wouldn't somebody have to want them? Quote
onlyoneawalker Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Petrov has done at Bolton what he's done at every club he's been at failed to produce consistently another poorly researched signing by coyle - the rebuild has begun hopefully and the players with the lead weight of consistent failure and cruising fir their cashf are being shifted - good lad Dougie for me Quote
HomerJay Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 proper 4-4-1-1 using the two most out and out wingers in the league and two defensive midfielders which makes it a bit suprising With Wingers in the wrong side, to come inside rather than get down the line? Quote
Garrp Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 With Wingers in the wrong side, to come inside rather than get down the line? Zaha on the right and Bolasie on the left both hugging the line which makes it all the more bizarre! Quote
onlyoneawalker Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Zaha on the right and Bolasie on the left both hugging the line which makes it all the more bizarre! I concur fucking around with wingers does my head in just leave em on the correct wing and let them crack on but maybe he plays em in opposites to cut in as he thinks our Fwds are more likely to get bits off them shooting than actually attack a cross? Biggish Dave Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I've never been a big fan of the Bulgarian, he sulks too often when things are not going his way but he has the talent to have ripped this division apart. Good luck to the lad but I suspect Dougle wants a more workmanlike team and Petrov doesn't fit into that. The pace of the game in Spain will probably suit Petrov too so a good move all round Quote

passmosster Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 petrov started 5 games this season it isn't just freedman that had a problem fitting him in even clueless couldn't accomodate him Think that if he had produced a higher % of decent crosses when he had the ball at his feet, he would have been accommodated. Just found his end product miles too infrequent to go with his defensive weakness. Quote
Casino Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 maybe not sure he was helped by the fact that our captain is either too slow (or too clever) to get on the end of said crosses Quote
DazBob Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 maybe not sure he was helped by the fact that our captain is either too slow (or too clever) to get on the end of said crosses This. Crosses tend to look a lot better when you have a striker who's capable of getting on the end of them and putting them in the net. Quote
Eavesy Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Scored the 2nd v Man U when we drew 2-2 didn't he? Think Owen got the 2nd Man U goal. Would like to see the stats of number of consecutive starts for petrov. Back end of last season must be the only time he had a decent run ( when we had no midfielders left) and this was arguably his best period for us. As rightly pointed out, there's no point having a winger who whips in crosses if there's no one to get on end of em. However I'd struggle to think of a winger and target combination currently existing that works on the 'you whip em in ill get on end of em' plan Quote
enzo gambaro Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 That's right, managers have chosen to leave Petrov out due to the futility of his constant stream of pinpoint deliveries. Nothing to do with the fact he's been a sulky fucker who's averaged one good game in four and a tackle every two seasons during his time at the club. He could be brilliant on his day but he was far too frustrating to be taking up two or three decent wages. Quote
Traf Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Nothing to do with the fact he's been a sulky fucker who's averaged one good game in four and a tackle every two seasons during his time at the club. Yes, and as he's 34 next Tuesday, you'd have thought somebody else in the game would have spotted that. Quote

Zico Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Zaha on the right and Bolasie on the left both hugging the line which makes it all the more bizarre! I think DF must be looking beyond this season as Petrov's contract would've been up anyway - so the fact he never plays him and he won't be here next season, plus he's knocking on make it an easy one for the manager I don't think it's this ruthless streak either - he prob told Petrov he wasn't playing and he can go play top flight football in Spain if he wants, he won't hold him back what's more bizarre is if that's how he played at Palace, he's trying something different here, as we're narrow as I can recall us ever being Quote
DazBob Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 what's more bizarre is if that's how he played at Palace, he's trying something different here, as we're narrow as I can recall us ever being Maybe because we don't have players with anything like the pace and flair of Bolasie and Zaha too? I dunno. Quote
Casino Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 coyle played without anybody on the right for the last week of his time, but i agree we're narrow made narrower by having your right winger having to come inside clearly deliberate, though Quote
Casino Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Maybe because we don't have players with anything like the pace and flair of Bolasie and Zaha too? I dunno. i'd say petrov, eagles and lee stand comparison against any pair of wingers in this league Quote
