I genuinely think he could've been a striker at the top level for a long time if he had the right attitude. He certainly had all the tools ... but seemingly not the ... (here it comes) ... the hunger.

Got us into the Premiership, certainly helped us stay there. I know his departure wasnt the best, but i like him.

Having the right personality for it is one of the tools needed to be at the top level though so he didn't have them all.He did a fantastic job for Bolton in his short time.Great signing.

The thing with Ricketts is when he had a chance he more often than not (or so memory seems to say) he seemed to put the ball into the net with relative ease.

 

I'd swap any of the strikers we currently have for the Ricketts we had in his pomp.

He's now twice the player he used to be.

His finish for the 3rd goal at Leicester was superb. Same goes for his composure for the 2nd goal against PNE at Cardiff.

Don't think I've ever been as hyped up for an England game as I was when he made his debut....thought this is it...we are finally big time!

Ricketts 1 on 1 was basically a goal, guaranteed.

 

Remember a really shit draw at home to west ham just after he'd got the England call (and gone a bit off the boil) and he was played clean through and fluffed his lines completely and thinking 'not like him at all', wasn't really the same player after he went billy bigtime

When we sold him, I had that horrible feeling that he'll send us down on last day and take away most of what his goals helped to give. he did score, but it wasn't enough. thankfully.

 

A great finisher, he scored on big occasions and scored vital goals. He helped shape our future for the better, but it didn't end well, which shouldn't be all he's remembered for.
