lordofthedarts Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 My first post on the forum so don't be too harsh. I think this is the most exciting period I've had as a Bolton fan since the 2003-2007 period and I think this has the potential to even beat that. Away from my day job I'm a football referee and am one of the referees for the academy and have seen some good players coming through. The U18's success this season is mainly due to good management. They just get on with it where most of the teams get the ball down and play football, ours seem to have a good mix of passing and attacking. Theres possibly 3 players what could even make it to the first team with the right training. A CB named Rob who is very similar mould to Gary Cahill. Zach Clough who looks like a cracking striker and Chris Lester who has seen appearances on the bench recently if I'm right. U14s also been in the limelight as well after impressing during a London competition recently. So will we finally see a great influx of youth entering our first team fray? Possibly. Its great to see Dougie investing in youth with 3 players now being spoke about. Vela looked very good on Saturday and didn't for a minute look out of place, however Riley, who I believe has a very bright future is a bit stuck as he isn't getting the game time. Eaves impressed on loan and is now looking more likely to make a first team appearance before the end of the season and hopefully we can start tying our hopefuls down to long term contracts as it looks like we are about to lose a cracker in Alonso when its so difficult to get a left back. Ream is starting to look good and hope are high for the likes of Sordell, Gregus, N'Gog and Mavies who still have potential to to improve. And Gregg Wylde may even come good as well. Holden is back and hopefully injury free and that we will see him playing as well as he was before his injury. I'm hoping we do everything we can to keep Marcos at the club and that Joe Riley gets a chance before the seasons out. I would however like to see us invest in a good young goalkeeper as I don't think Bogdan will fulfil his potential and we will be stuck with a half decent Championship goalkeeper. I haven't seen any of the U21's team so has anyone seen any hopefuls for them? Quote
Biggish Dave Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Nice 1st post - many will agree with your summing too. As for the last sentence, i've only seen Vela & Riley of the U21's who look like they will deffinately make the grade, Eaves & Sampson I believe might make the grade at championship level but don't think they would be good enough to step up any higher - but would certainly loan them for more game time. Nobody else has impressed me at that level Quote
lordofthedarts Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 I was on the line for the game just after Tom signed. It was the reserves v u18s a couple of years back. He was awful he looked out of his depth but it looks like hes come on a lot and I guess working with Kev will be very good for him. I completely forgot about Sampson, very highly rated and that lad McKee from Burnley we signed but not seen him either. I believe in the loan system and have said for 2 years now that loaning Joe out could be one of the best things we could of done. We have two players who can play right back so just let him get some game time Quote
DazBob Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 What do you think of Chris? Do you think he'll make it? Quote
lordofthedarts Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 he has half a chance and I think with Dougie behind him he could make it. Whether he makes it to a premier league players a different thing Quote
jules_darby Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Well Wylde is shit And I slightly worry that you've put elsewhere that you think the reason for our demise last season was Elmander leaving Other than that, nice work Quote
bwfc90 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 What about Luke Woodland? He got called up to the England U18's so he must have something about him Quote
Brookie Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Good first post and great to see some optimism for a change Quote

freds dad Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 i think elmanders departure was very untimely and we never replaced him. and only seen wylde for rangers and he looked brilliant I could look brilliant playing for Rangers in the Scottish Sunday pub league. Quote

jules_darby Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 i think elmanders departure was very untimely and we never replaced him. and only seen wylde for rangers and he looked brilliant Wylde hasn't been near our team in ages and he was shite for Bury We had alot bigger problems than the loss of Elmander. Much, much bigger..... Quote
