Obviously there are a few over the years and always difficult to put them in order. I would say that Wembley and Europe are up there but the first game of the 72-73 season is my overwhelming memory.

 

72-73 was my first full season as a Wanderer and walking down Manchester Road with my Dad and my brother had this 11yo excited to say the least. In front of 7,133 and sat in the Manchester Road stand with the Manny Road West Terrace boys in good mood singing away the day had a great feeling about it. The whites played Bournemouth that day (12/9/72) and with goals from Byrom (2) and a Machin og the lads played well as a unit and it was the start of great things to come over the season as the Whites won the old 3rd division league.

 

One thing that does stand out most of all was the good humoured banter from the terrace who gave the opposition plenty of stick and I hadn't realised until now that Harry Redknapp was playing that day!

What's your ever lasting memory while watching the Wanderers?

Started watching Bolton in 1980/81, got loads of great and not so great moments watching the boys in white. Early on I remember beating the mags at Burnden when they had just signed Keegan, Cantello blasting 1 in from 50 yards against Cambridge, McDonagh's goal v Burnley and thrashing both Walsall and Plymouth.

 

If I had to pick 1 memory out though from the earlyish days of watching Bolton, I would have to say losing to Aldershot in the play offs was the worst of the lot - the hurt of that day was unbelievable, got so much stick at school the day after it cemented my hatred of Blackburn because it was their scummy fans giving me grief. I still also hope Aldershot lose every week.

 

Oh yes - I was also there against Darlington that bonfire night

It's not a happy memory, but the stand-out memory for me is the home leg of the play-off to Aldershot and we got relegated. Hearing the Bolton fans still singing, "We love you Bolton, we do".

 

Made me realise I loved BWFC.

Hard to pin point one, even being a youngster there are plenty. I can't remember much of the 95 season, so I'd have to say Munich away. Little Bolton mixing it with amongst the best in the world will stay with me for a very long time.

only 5 years apart, but felt like a lifetime.

Early days? Really loved that last day of 77/78 when we drew against Fulham at Burnden to secure the Div 2 championship, people drinking champagne all over the Manny Road stand. Then the 3-0 home win over the rags on Dec 22, 1978. Have to mention a 3-2 home win over Derby at the end of 81/2. It looked like we were certainties for relegation and we scored a very late goal and then escaped relegation a week later. Manic at Burnden in those last few mins. Later days? I just really love derby wins: the 1-0 home win over United under Megson and the 2-1 over Blackburn when Stuart Holden scored deserve mention. Loads of games from that 96/7 championship season bring back fantastic memories. If I was to be transported back in time to experience just one Bolton match again, I reckon I'd choose, predictably, Hull away in 92/3.

My first game that, Lever End with my two brothers and the start of a lifelong love affair with the Whites. Too many good times to list, many associated with my 5 years as Travel Sec for London Whites, and a few bad un's too, but I couldn't have imagined watching anyone else over the last 40 years.

Bolton v Rabotnicki - First match I brought my nephew to aged 5. He spent the second half licking the concrete at the back of the ESL, when asked why he said "its boring, its cold and its too loud". He had it right except the loud bit!

 

Beating Blackburn - ever.

 

Munich away - amazing result, amazing city and fucking tip top trip.

Lisbon / Madrid - top days out

Guimaraes - Top day out. 19 hours door to door. Fucking steaming isnt the word.

 

Loads more. I love football me. You can go all season watching drivel and then one great game and its like "yeah, this is why I come"

2-3 at Birmingham in the Cup - thats the last "legendary" game for me, who knows when the next one will be - could be May, could be 3 years off, but knowing one is there somewhere down the line is what keeps you going!

Too many great memories watching Bolton play but the last biggun was defo Birmingham cup. I lost the buttons on my new Paul smith shirt celebrating. Great great day.

Sunderland away felt good this year. It felt good even though I only got to put my head down for a few hours before going to work knackered.

Dont know why but this game always sticks in my mind. I know it was freeezing and a really really shit game. Fuck knows why but I was still there at FT, I probably didnt have money for another pint.

 

Jussi long punt in the 90th min, defence defying bounce, Stelios head in, he runs over and kisses the ref.

 

I left that game again thinking "I fucking love football me".

 

Proper Bi-Polar shit, remorseful about your life choices for 89 minutes followed by extreme euphoria straight after!

Not wanting to stray from topic but I never bought into stelios one bit, Matty Taylor was more likely to go past a player than yon mon. This goal and that header against arsenal are my only top of the head fond memories of him. Oh and I think he got one away at Everton when we won 4-0.

He scored a beaut v Norwich one year too.

 

I like Stelios only for the fact that he didn't drown down the wing v zenit.

Stelios was a good player for us.

Got to be the play off final v reading from the moment branagan saved the pen we all felt like we were going to do it. Kids in my school used to all support the clubs in the prem and mock me for picking a team out side of the new exciting premier league. That summer I just remember being so excited about seeing my team in the sticker books, in computer games and playing matches live on sky.

 

I recorded the granada coveridge of that match and I watched that tape hundreds of times just to relive the excitement of that day

Good shout, that. I was in 4th year high school by the time 'lightning struck twice' so after having however many years of shite from DMB's, it was fucking brilliant to just have a big grin on my face for the next 6 months.

I was about 10 when those cunts from chelsea came over the lever end and my dad sheltered me and thumped one of them and trampled his sunglasses into the ground like clint eastwood. My hero.
