Could get served a pint when i reached 15, so i cant really recall, i remember going in a few pubs in Leigh and Atherton for a pint and no questions were asked, i became a regular in the Skenning Bobs in Tyldesley when i turned 16 with loads of others in the back room.

Atherton Arms, Kings Head Athy were two when I used knock about round Athy as a 15 year old,

Then Blue Lion in Daisy, they knew I were under age but they were cool about it I didn't act like a knob or get wasted so they overlooked the fact I was underage, then I supped at 16 int cricket club we me gramps,

Three Crowns also was a haunt as well

It was a pub up near the old Town Hall/Casino etc. - early 90s, proper shithole, ripped seats and 'interesting' clientele (but friendly enough). It wasn't the pub that was Mcginlay's, nor that other one near the Temple - it was definitely on an 'up' (toward St Georges Road) street, rather than an 'across' one...Any ideas? I'd recognise the name...

I really cut my teeth in the Man and Scythe as, provided you kept your head down and supped on the trestle table near the bogs, they turned a blind eye to obvious under-agers.

Like a lot of others Sparrows was the first club, we used to smuggle cans in to make the night more likely to end up in inebriation - we'd top our pints up in the bogs then sling the empties onto the false ceiling - it eventually collapsed under the weight of all the empty tinnies (we weren't the only ones having cheap nights y'see).

I got bold enough to help one of my younger mates 'get in' after a few months, told him to keep his head down and I'd go to the bar for him etc.

"Whatever you do, don't draw attention to yourself..."

I went for a piss and returned to see him riding on the Mechanical Bull (installed by Dougie) - pint in hand and being cheered on by the whole clientele of the club...I knew at that point I'd created a monster, anyone who's met him would agree!

Kings Arms on Chorley Old Road, orrible! Mainly though in town it was varsity, scythe and whatever BL1 was called before it was BL1.

Places on COR were all closing down by the time I started going out, Funnys, Sally Up Steps, that one opposite where old road and new. Road forks that just never seemed to take off no matter who owned it
