ianovit Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Also three goal celebrations - sounds about right to me. With only 2 games left (except Palace) the permutations are mind numbing but if we can avoid defeat next week I reckon we will make the playoffs. Whether of not the remaining squad is good enough .............? we can worry about that later............ Thought Mido was immense yesterday...........DF has unearthed a gem Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) 5 substitutions, 2 bookings, plus injury stoppage to give the 5 minutes signalled. 2 minutes injury stoppage during the added 5 gives 7. nothing for goal celebrations these days? Edited April 21, 2013 by boltondiver Quote
Rembrandt Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Dougies thinking behind bringing butterfield in may have been with dawsons departure in mind. butterfield right back , rickets along side knight as ream and mills have not really impressed. And Butterfield has impressed ? Just trying to get my head around the team possibilities. Quote
Rembrandt Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Would be the ideal replacement , but his lack of game time would worry me, thought he was injured anyway. I understand Butterfield has little game time in recent months too. It's all a bit worrying for a play-off scenario. Quote
Rembrandt Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) Thought we played some decent football yesterday. More convincing than other recent games and miles better than pre-February. Great start. Unlucky not to be ahead by the 3rd minute. Settled into an 'end of season' game till half-time, tho that offside against Boro seemd tight. More exciting 2nd half. Fluke from Eagles and a soft penalty for Lee. Still, goals are goals. Good performances all round, except the so-called full-backs. Sordell is very patchy - looks like he might be the real deal sometimes, other times looks fed up. Nice touches from Eaves, but a hard job to do much when we're holding onto a one-goal lead late on. Medo & Pratley immense; others all worked hard; Bogdan still shaky and kicking not much improved. Disappointed that we still lose concentration with 15 mins to go, then start giving the ball away too much, then run out of energy. Hopefully that'll be sorted with the right pre-season. Incredible to be in a play-off place with 2 games to go. TBH, it must be down to a poor quality division, despite DF's recent improvements to the team. Injuries and departing loanees are likely to torpedo this late play-off surge. But it's football, so who knows. And at least it's worth going to home or away games again. onefinfrandsen Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 its alarming that we will be without ngog , spearing, and dawson, and watching highlights of brighton yesterday is a concern, they look good. but you never know lets just scrape through and fill the reebok. Quote

This is all similar to 94/5. We seemed to pick up all kinds of injuries late season that year (Simon Coleman, Richard Sneekes, Mark Patterson injured and I think Keith Branagan was suspended and we ended up with Peter Shilton in goal!). We limped in to the play offs. We played Reading at Wembley ...... Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Only ended up with Shilton because Davison was injured as well! Quote

DirtySanchez Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Shilton Better than Bogdan? No worse at saving penalties Quote
no balls Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Only ended up with Shilton because Davison was injured as well! And when he got sent off at Stoke. Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Medo was top top notch he's a very good player easily premier league quality and a future captain for me. Quote
onlyoneawalker Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 That is a proper knob's comment Yea perhaps on reflection and if he was there then fair enough but I've still a very sour taste after his antics recently it'll pass to be replaced by fond memories no doubt Quote
DazBob Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Only seen one replay of the penalty. Was it a dive by Chungy? Quote
tomski Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 It certainly looks like a odd fall to me if he was clipped. Still not sure though. Quote
Biggish Dave Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 We had enough dodgy penalties given against us early on in the season so i'm happy to get the odd one now. As it happens, I thought it was a penalty at the time Quote
Casino Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 they seemed happy to stop lee and eagles with trips everywhere else on the pitch so i guess they did in this case, too Quote
enzo gambaro Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Woodgate hangs a leg in and hooks Chungy's leading foot. We might have been a touch fortunate to get it given where the ball was going (and I know it isn't supposed to make any odds, but it does), but there was a challenge by the defender and definite contact, which seems to be deemed more than enough by those that are paid to pretend to know the the game these days. Compared to the Fuller/Pratley incident - no challenge whatsoever, minimal contact instigated by the attacking player - it was as clear a penalty as you're ever likely to see! Quote
frank_spencer Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Clear pen, was right in front of us. if he didn't give that then pratley/Davies (sickening I know) were fouled straight after. Quote

Marc505 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Finally back from Germany - shafted by Lufthansa strike yesterday - so just catching up on all this now. Great result, chuffed to bits when I saw it on my phone and only just really seeing the other results from teams around us now. Well done Whites, brilliant! Quote

Rembrandt Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Good all round performance apart from both full backs keeper and centre forward ? I said Sordell was patchy and Bogdan still shaky. The full-backs are something else again. Still a good all-round performance as a team though. Quote
