It won't be achieved, but there is a significant percentage in favor and while independence may not happen now it shows that a large percentage of Scots are unhappy with Westminster.

I don't know there Bolty; I'm a bit concerned it's going to be closer than a lot of folk think. But then given you are the other side of the world and I work in Scotland at least once a month and my other half lived there for 15 years, I guess you'd have a more informed take on the current situation.

Alex Last of the Dinosaurs Salmond is trying to shift the emphasis away from identity to economics. He's done this because he knows that the Scottish identity is still and will ALWAYS remain world renowned. Therefore, he's trying to say that the country would be financially better off without the (non-existent) drain of the Angles.

 

He's basically talking out of his arse.

 

The oil and gas in the north sea is turning from a flow to a trickle soon so that's gone. The only industry Scotland has left is whisky and inventing stuff.

 

Therefore, this all boils down to Salmond trying to secure his place in history as one of the great Scots. It won't work, but he wins in any case as he can say he tried.
