We have fuck all means. Shit ticket sales and a fucking massive debt, half the teams in the division have more means than us. HTH.

Think we are about 10th on average attendances last time I looked. We have a bigger budget than most teams and our squad should comfortably challenging the playoffs with a decent manager in charge imo.

just on the first bit, average attendance is irrelevant

and on 'the squad' i agree we have some decent players but they did nowt until supplemented by cast offs and unwanteds

i agree we should be pushing for the play offs next year and we will, cos we've got a good manager

Half, if not more, the teams in this division think exactly the same.

Cant argue with that and so they should do imo. That doesn't mean its ok for us to be utter shit though.

There isn't one vaild excuse or reason that we shouldn't be challenging for the playoffs next season at least imo.

I agree on the attendance being irrelevant etc I was just quoting that in reply to our shit ticket sales.

If we look at revenue brought in etc we are still competitive compared to all the other teams.

I hope you are right with that one :)

This might sound Bertie big bollocks but im not arsed about the summers dealings.

If a club of our size/stature has now revised its aims to just survive in the championship we may as well just shut the doors and fuck it off.

A club of our size/stature ??

Since Coyle destroyed our premier league playing squad, wiped out the premier league backroom staff, & cost us our premier league place thereby putting us in massive financial debt without being on the premier league gravy train, we now are a championship club with championship support.

Surviving in the championship is much better than going down another tier while we rebuild. In the 80s/90s it took a lot more than 10 years to return to the top flight & that was without having to repair the lasting damage caused by an imbecile like Coyle, or a £150m+ debt.

Because of where we have been we have the advantage of parachute payments to keep a better quality of squad than most of the league. Sadly we have already spunked two of the best chances we are going to get up the wall.

We should be pushing for at least playoffs while we have this advantage. The longer we fuck around on this league the less chance we have of getting out of it in the right direction.

We are still miles better off than we were in 80/90s unless we carry accepting fucking dogshit and slowly slip down and down.

the parachute payments are generally being eaten away by the heavy infrastructure and highly paid players who got us relegated then showed they weren't up to a fight in this divsion, are they not?

They are but the challenge was to have a manager who could get the best out of these players which would put them at the top end of the division even though they got us relegated. The manager should have done better with them players.

To be fair to Dougie I think Coyle killed most of them off before he got here and he has been trying to repair the damage to the squad ever since.

Yes.

Dougie identified players like Dawson,Feeney, McNaughton, Mason, Hutton, Juke....all players who improved the team without being household names or multi million pound signings, but were still more than we could afford.

Seriously can't argue with that.

The group of players we have now should be good enough to compete for the play off places next season. But key players like the Juke might not be here next season. And how many can we keep fit for long enough to challenge, since we won't have a big squad?

I'd wait till start of next season before saying we should be doing this or that. Take a couple of players out and we're back to the group who looked like we'd end up in Birmingham's position come the last day. I don't think there is much in this division. A player hitting form at the right time a key injury can make a massive difference when teams are so close together in ability.

These parachutes, Wolves and Blackburn are on the same as us, plus whoever went down the year before (Birmingham and Blackpool).

Last season's relegated teams are more in the money as the Sky money went up, Wigan, QPR and Reading, one of whom may go up in the play-offs. Three more teams will come down with this extra Sky money. That's 5 or 6 teams with more money than us, whichever way you want to look at it, and between three and five teams on equal.

To say we have an advantage over most of the league doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

That still puts us in the top 8 or 9 budget wise so we shouldn't be so far off the top 6 if managed well imo. We have got an advantage over more teams than not.

The time has been there to cut our cloth and work out a way forward. This season just gone and the one before we had an even bigger advantage but made a cock of that.

No. 5 teams with more money than us, substantially more, puts us outside that bracket. Then 5 or 6 on equal monet puts us in the top 11 or 12 budgetwise (including ourselves). 12 is half the league.

Worst case then we are 12th budget wise as you say. That's puts us better than 12 with a maximum of 11 better. Its still more teams worse off than us.

True (for this season). No complaining if we finish 12th then.

So 6 teams with a definitely better budget. We are 7-12 budget wise so with our resources 12th would put us worst in our group so to speak so I think that would be poor.

If Dougie does a good job we can get into the top 6. If we finish 7-10 I think we cant grumble too much with the budget he will probably get in the summer not being too great but I would let him go at the end of his contract if that is the case.

So in summary a solid/average job by Dougie is top 10. Playoffs if he does a good job. Anything lower than 10th is a poor effort imo.
