I've spoken to people who have played at quite a high level in non-league and even into the bottom two divisions. My friend who now plays for Darlington reckons the step up from a non league player to a Championship standard player would be absolutely massive, so I'm presuming he means greater than 20%. Very few players ever make is into the top division if they've come through the non league ranks, I think you would struggle to name 50 in the last 20 years. There no doubt are some very skillful players plying their trade outside the top two divisions, but they've probably not made it due to attitude. Generally if somebody is good enough, they'll be spotted. As for players in the top divisions, who we think aren;t good enough, I'm sure there are plenty of them, but I suspect they were good enough at one point and then either lost motivation and turned shit or the money ruined them

If you are asking me if a non league club has ever given a professional club a tough game, then yes the answer is yes. That doesn't mean the gap isn't big. I've already said its an isolated incident. You are only remembering the ones that do win and are played on MOTD and Sky for years and years. Why do you think they do this? because it happens once every blue moon. You completely forget the hundreds and thousands of games where the non league team gets beaten. Many better non league players break into the professional ranks and end up playing for in the top flight such as Ricky Lambert/Grant Holt/Pilkington and many others end up playing in Championship/1/2. Is that not true? Again this is an anomaly. You have listed three players. Where are the rest? You've named Lambert and Holt which was over 10 years ago and Pilkington that was 8 years ago. If we go 3 levels down from League 2 in the football pyramid there are 11 leagues, 252 teams and if each team has a squad of 20 players its over 5,000 players. That's not taking into account 10 years of players. You have named three.
August 6, 201412 yr I never claim to go anymore do i? i haven't said i haven't binned it off. having done the whole having a season ticket when living abroad i understand it can be hard. sacking it off for non league football is weird though. they are not good games. they are ridiculously poor in standard compared with Championship football. The second half of your statement is the actual crux of the whole situation. If Dougie can't find the cash, he can't find the cash. Personally, I think we've too many midfielders and if one of them on £10,000 a week over a 3yr deal wasn't here, we could afford the Juke. The striker was the priority IMO and he's failed to deliver so far.

Not sure if your on the wind up or not but yeah they have sold two players for about £8 million just yesterday. August 6, 201412 yr The facts of the matter are the time to get promoted was the first year after relegation. Unfortunately we now have an extremely mediocre side with an extremely mediocre manager. We have no money and we need to accept it for what it is and support the team. It may well get worse before it gets better.
