Pre Season.

4games confirmed for July, Macclesfield, Rochdale, Tranmere, and Port Vale, none of them very inspiring, but suppose it's about getting them fit.

Our definition of many might differ but it has been done its far from impossible that suggests that the gap is bridgeable and so not quite as massive as Garp and E are suggesting.

if it wasn't so big the people we would be keeping most of our academy as that is where they are going playing. you are way off the marl. my friend is a full time pro in iceland and a pretty decent player. he admits he hasn't got what it takes to make the step up even from non league to the League 2.

Its very small percentages that make a good player great and a average player good were not talking about a 20% improvement from a non league player to a pro player in the championship I would  say its a 5% - 10% gap at maximum. Think we should agree to disagree.

It's an unquantifiable difference. Unlike the lad who ran 10 seconds in the 100m last week, he only needs a 4% improvement and he's Usain Bolt.

it's a debate that people can argue the toss over all day and night if they want to.

I've spoken to people who have played at quite a high level in non-league and even into the bottom two divisions. My friend who now plays for Darlington reckons the step up from a non league player to a Championship standard player would be absolutely massive, so I'm presuming he means greater than 20%.

Very few players ever make is into the top division if they've come through the non league ranks, I think you would struggle to name 50 in the last 20 years.

There no doubt are some very skillful players plying their trade outside the top two divisions, but they've probably not made it due to attitude. Generally if somebody is good enough, they'll be spotted. As for players in the top divisions, who we think aren;t good enough, I'm sure there are plenty of them, but I suspect they were good enough at one point and then either lost motivation and turned shit or the money ruined them

He'd need some extra goes on the sunbed as well

Anyone got Dougie's email address as I think I have an idea. Sign 15 blokes from Chorley etc. Get them to step up and we'll cruise the league, just tell the lads that it is only 46 one off games

Non league clubs give professional clubs tough and close matches when they meet in the cup. Is that not true?

If you are asking me if a non league club has ever given a professional club a tough game, then yes the answer is yes. That doesn't mean the gap isn't big. I've already said its an isolated incident. You are only remembering the ones that do win and are played on MOTD and Sky for years and years. Why do you think they do this? because it happens once every blue moon. You completely forget the hundreds and thousands of games where the non league team gets beaten.

Many better non league players break into the professional ranks and end up playing for in the top flight such as Ricky Lambert/Grant Holt/Pilkington and many others end up playing in Championship/1/2. Is that not true?

Again this is an anomaly. You have listed three players. Where are the rest? You've named Lambert and Holt which was over 10 years ago and Pilkington that was 8 years ago. If we go 3 levels down from League 2 in the football pyramid there are 11 leagues, 252 teams and if each team has a squad of 20 players its over 5,000 players. That's not taking into account 10 years of players. You have named three.

I never claim to go anymore do i? i haven't said i haven't binned it off.

having done the whole having a season ticket when living abroad i understand it can be hard.

sacking it off for non league football is weird though. they are not good games. they are ridiculously poor in standard compared with Championship football.

You sacked it off to dress up as an elephant to be an ice hockey mascot you raving rimmer

I would think it's more than 4%

Anyone know the last time we didnt spend any money on players during the summer?? Must be 25 years + ago?????

Just the manager from Chorley would make a positive difference :-)

Juke scored twice for Burnley last night against celta vigo. Burnley fans love him. If we really want to get out this league we are going to need a goalscorer. 1.5 million is hardly massive.

if you've not got 1.5 million, it is fucking massive

It is massive if you don't have it.

I think we had a price in mind for Juke and have stuck to our guns which is fair enough. Maybe the club is trying to toughen up in negotiations.

2 goals v celta's reserves.

Big fucking wow. He's not all that and not worth £1.5m plus add-ons.

see, i think he is worth the money in as much as any footballer is worth the fees paid

but, its irrelevant him being worth it if we haven't fcuking got it

how will forest be able to spend this 5 million on the peterbrough fella

no parachutes, gate money maybe double ours?

have they sold some?

We can agree to disagree on the first point, it's merely an opinion.

The second half of your statement is the actual crux of the whole situation.

If Dougie can't find the cash, he can't find the cash.

Personally, I think we've too many midfielders and if one of them on £10,000 a week over a 3yr deal wasn't here, we could afford the Juke.

The striker was the priority IMO and he's failed to deliver so far.

New owners?

New ground name?

New sponsors?

Not sure if your on the wind up or not but yeah they have sold two players for about £8 million just yesterday.

Their chairman was giving it the big "we have got to be prudent with money for FFP" then spunks a load of money on a league 1 striker

Edited by tylswhite

didnt know of the sales

why doesn't freedman make somebody sign two of our youngsters for 7 million

Most annoying thing about those Forest sales is the immediate loan back so they can strengthen without weakening this season

Is it FFP that's stopping us spending or our Eddie won't cough up.

The facts of the matter are the time to get promoted was the first year after relegation.

Unfortunately we now have an extremely mediocre side with an extremely mediocre manager.

We have no money and we need to accept it for what it is and support the team.

It may well get worse before it gets better.

It's that we haven't sold any players for £8 million this week, our revenue this season is going to be circa £10 million isn't it?
