anewman Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 His initial remit was promotion, that much is true. When we missed out on that in his first season, and with the threat of FFP looming, his job changed to bringing the club finances back in line. It's not THAT hard to comprehend that targets can change from season to season. We didn't miss out He fucked up Playing hall as a lone striker against Blackpool, Jesus h Christ he should of been sacked there and then Quote
onlyoneawalker Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Coyle and freedman both had relative success early on they both thrn fell off a cliff when the going got tough they were found very badly lacking neither were up to the job they were in so they got sacked - I look at it that both left the club in worse shape than they found it so as freedman took over from coyle he must be worse they were both shite football managers and it would seem freedman was a dick round the place too Quote
Carlos Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 I'm with DopeyJohn, FFP has always been at the forefront. The only team who ignored it were QPR and Dodgy 'Arry. They really are fucked the moment they get relegated. Quote

Sweep Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Playing hall as a lone striker against Blackpool I think that really was the most bizarre thing he did. Clearly he was trying to be far too clever Quote
Casino Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 freedmans shite were costing us 15 million a year in wages, give or take coyles 65, give or take seeing as the league positions were pretty similar, i find it hard to see how anybody sane can argue freedman was making a worse job of it than coyle unless your blind also, one of em cost us our place in the premier league one of em didn't Quote

ex_midlandwhite Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I think that really was the most bizarre thing he did. Clearly he was trying to be far too clever Hall up front on his own is just made up though, it was Craig Davies up front on his own and he changed to two up front bringing Hall off early on. No doubt he couldn't get the best out of what he brought in but I do think he has hopefully left us some decent young players. Quote

We HAD to cut wages. He still couldn't manage the team. In a few years if NL fucks up then DF's stock will rise, much like a load of you seem to now think Megson wasn't taking us to a really bad place In other news Joe Riley is now Cafu Quote
kent_white Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I'll be interested to see what happens if and when DF gets a new club. He just went into terminal decline with us and reached the point where even a win wasn't enough to get the confidence of the squad back. My biggest criticism is how he used to overcomplicate things, but I imagine he learnt a hell of a lot during his time with us and if he's still got the appetite, it wouldn't surprise me to see him being a success at a club like Preston or Shed U if he's given the chance. gonzo Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 We've been here so many times its ridiculous. Freedman inherited a whopping wage bill and a sqaud more than capable of making a push for promotion. The downsizing and cost cutting was a direct result of his failings. Its only when the board shit their pants and realised we were sinking faster than the titanic they ordered new directives. Freedman was backed more than amply for this division until the very end when became apparent we were going only one way and that was down. Can we not just put this to bed? The man is massive black mark on the football club and given more time would have caused more Damage than any other manger including that buffoon coyle. Like Mrs Freedman said in an earlier post way back when...I could shrink the wage bill an offload high earners. It was freedmans job to do the hard part and bring in cheap players and get them to compete. He failed dramatically at the latter. Fact. Quote

mickbrown Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Freedman apologists? Jesus, I genuinely never thought I'd see this day. Whatever his remit was, he was absolutely shit at it. Edited December 24, 2014 by mickbrown Quote

Hopefully it will warm up for you fella. Is it town hall steps or centre circle? Edited December 24, 2014 by Blixa Quote
awandering Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 What's happened to Riley? On loan at Oxford. Quote
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) But this stating he did the job he was supposed to is bollocks. We HAD to cut wages. He still couldn't manage the team. Which is exactly what I said... He did the job of cutting wages well but couldn't manage to team to go on and win games... It's all in the post I'm quoting below. Freedman had an effective role as the hatchet man at Bolton. Between him and Gartside, a lot of credit has to be given for us not being hit with a FFP transfer ban. Admittedly he was a shit man-manager and his tactics were bollocks (I was ever the optimist and willing to give him far more time than he deserved in all honesty), but he did serve a purpose and in the grand scheme of things it might be that he was an important cog in the Wanderers machine. Oh, you'll also notice that I say I was wrong about him in that too. And as others have said it is obvious that once we weren't challenging for promotion his remit was changed to getting in line for FFP whilst remaining in this division. You don't need to be in board meetings to see that. Edited December 24, 2014 by SnoopJohnnyJohn Quote

Sweep Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Obvious? Or convenient? If he did the job that was assigned to him why was he sacked? He was onviously sacked because he was shit, the same as Coyle was. The only manager we have sacked recently, who wasn't shit is Megson. Had we kept him, we would still have been at the top table and wouldn't be concerned about some of the issues we have now ......here fishy, fishy Quote
