FWIW  Too me he just looked forlorn and apologetic. If he signs a new contract he will make a "Great" Club Captain he is not the greatest player but he gives his all.   I think giving the Cap to Spearing had an adverse effect to his personal game. 

I like the cries of disgust when Mills drives one of his long passes upfield (which he does too often at time to be fair) then the mumbles when it lands in the path of a wide player or on Cravies/Heskey's chest.
