Any jock who has left and lives elsewhere though, no longer has any right to have a say. Same as how English ex-pats shouldn't have a say. IMO. Edited September 18, 201411 yr by DazBob

Any jock who has left and lives elsewhere though, no longer has any right to have a say. Same as how English ex-pats shouldn't have a say. IMO. So the 800k (Alex Ferguson's figure) Scots working elsewhere in the UK should not have a right to vote on the future of the UK? But the 16 and 17 year-olds in Scotland should? I'm not staying up, but I've got my chart ready to assess the position whenever I wake up (which is several times a night). So it will be TV on, sound muted. A recount in Edinburgh or Glasgow will slow things down significantly.

September 18, 201411 yr So the 800k (Alex Ferguson's figure) Scots working elsewhere in the UK should not have a right to vote on the future of the UK? But the 16 and 17 year-olds in Scotland should? Correct, IMO. If they don't still live in Scotland then they shouldn't be allowed to vote. As for the 'future of the UK' comment, then presumably you think the English, Welshers and Norn Oirish should be able to vote too?

September 18, 201411 yr So the 800k (Alex Ferguson's figure) Scots working elsewhere in the UK should not have a right to vote on the future of the UK? But the 16 and 17 year-olds in Scotland should? Well there are I believe 112,000 16 and 17 year olds who've registered. I think most of those would vote yes on the basis of Trident and irrational green beliefs which one day soon they will be embarrassed to recollect, but it looks like No is far enough ahead that it wouldn't matter if they all voted Yes. Whereas 56 million ish people with an interest in what direction the UK takes get no say whatsoever. So let's for argument's sake say there need to be two million Yes votes for them to win, which isn't actually far off 50% + 1. This means that the say of 1 in 28 Britons will be sufficient to bring the country as we know it to an end. This ought to figure in the number crunching bit in Private Eye.
September 18, 201411 yr What on earth are you on about? I take it you don't work with much data analysis do you? If all the non born scots were voting yes it'd be closer - the % of those born in another country have no bearing on this #imnotsurewhatimtalkingaboutyetagain And also, whilst you are wrongly reading figs, it would also work against your argument above regarding your misplaced shock and horror about non born scottish residents voting. Fecking hell. Take it , means a lot to u C ? This vote? Never seen u so animated. Guess you really have a lot to lose personally? Edited September 18, 201411 yr by bgoefc
September 18, 201411 yr Thanks. I liked that post as well. Now, back to this chart. Malcolm, what is on this chart? Is it more effective than Jon Snow's info graphics?
September 18, 201411 yr Take it , means a lot to u C ? This vote? Never seen u so animated. Guess you really have a lot to lose personally? Not really, in fact if the vote goes yes, I'll have doubled my international target overnight. I'm just really interested, it's probably one of the biggest votes in my lifetime, whatever happens this is a huge, historic moment in the long history of this isle.
September 18, 201411 yr Bladder a bit unreliable Malc? This made me piss. A bit like Malc at 1.30am, 3.00am and 5.00am.

Pity it will be forgotten within a few months. Strange that when it really came to real change you were for the status quo and me the old bastard wanted "real" democratic change!
September 18, 201411 yr Forgotten in a few months? You really don't know your British history do you? It certainly won't be forgotten. And if you'd have read what I've actually posted, I'm all for change, either way it's coming thanks to this referendum. Make no mistake, tonight is a big deal in our collective history. It's fascinating stuff and it's happening now, quite giddy with it all. Then we've got to find out what will happen afterwards, short term ramifications etc We're lucky to be here to witness such an event.
September 18, 201411 yr This made me piss. A bit like Malc at 1.30am, 3.00am and 5.00am. Just so. Thanks. I liked that post as well. Now, back to this chart. Malcolm, what is on this chart? Is it more effective than Jon Snow's info graphics? I've just got, for each of the 32 counting authorities, the percentage of the total electorate it represents, an indication of the likely timing of the various counts, and the crude figure I expect is needed in each to reach 50% overall, using recent pollster figures by region as a guide. If results are tending to be higher for Yes then I expect them to win, and if lower then No to win. Of the early expected declarations North Lanarkshire is far and away the most significant. [i've no idea what Jon Snow is saying / will say.]
September 18, 201411 yr Are the scotch stupid enough to vote for Salmond as their king? As I said very early in this thread, he wins if he loses, and he's stuffed if he wins.
September 18, 201411 yr Half an hour into the coverage and already there are apparently sighs of relief from No-ists in Scotland and politicians in London - none of whom will go on the record. There will be no exit poll either. I will have a cheeky quid on a 54.2% win for our glorious union. Malcolm, your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to find out how the 22 people who live on the Isle of Rum vote, should your bladder allow. Are the scotch stupid enough to vote for Salmond as their king? It seems not, but he's won anyway. A fortnight ago Westminster promised him, without any decent reason, devo-max, the very thing Cameron refused to have on the ballot in the first place. Y'know, interest in this poll has been somewhat muted today on the streets of Kabul. I was looking at our flagpoles earlier. We've got the union flag, the New Zealand flag and the Estonian flag cos their bods live here too. And we've also got the EU flag for unknown reasons. We could have to replace three of those within the space of eighteen months.
