September 19, 201411 yr The prime minister has just said there should be a fair settlement for the English you clowns,no fuckin will The only thing the English want is for Scottish and Welsh MPs to stop voting on English only affairs. That's all. No-one was even all that bothered about that till about last Tuesday. By all means give us a list of things that you think the English want to change.

I don't think any party is really in great shape at the moment, but it'll be interesting to see how the negotiations go on this one and let's see what happens when we are a bit more removed from the high emotions of the last few weeks to the public's voice. I also like to know Scallywell, take the floor, please I'd also like to know what are the English list of demands.

September 19, 201411 yr Thinly veiled "I've no idea how to answer Maggies question" post I don't know what I want, but I want it now
September 19, 201411 yr This is going to be a fucking mess. Impossible to define an English only bill without leaving it open to Scottish Labour twats in the Lords to put wrecking amendments in, or alternatively giving English MPs a route to disenfranchising the Scots.
September 19, 201411 yr Apart fro the Scottish labour twats emotive bit, I agree it's going to be a mess, the Tory backbenchers aren't going to help much either.
September 19, 201411 yr The only viable solution is a seperate English Parliament, and no one wants that, apart from 4th rate politicians who need more paid positions. The best unviable solution would be to just un-do devolution and bin the Barnett formula, but there's plenty of rubbish from the last few years we can't turn the clock back on
September 19, 201411 yr With any luck Ed will start fighting EV4EL and then everyone gets a nice excuse for a Mexican stand-off where Scotland gets fuck all more either

November 5, 201411 yr Feckin yokels down in Lewes. Also pricks of policemen wouldn't let me sleep on the bench at the train station after I stumbled off leathered and having missed my stop. Bastards. Cost me 70 quid to get home.
January 16, 201511 yr Been watching coverage of the job losses and general devastation descending upon Aberdeen as a result of the world oil glut. Can't help but wonder what degree of difficulty Salmond and his cronies would have faced had they won the vote. Their whole campaign was based upon financial security provided by North Sea oil. They must be emitting a large 'phew!' right now.

They must be emitting a large 'phew!' right now. Yes! A 20 or 30% hit on income for Scotland will only represent 2 or 3 % for the UK, so, whatever the impact, it is far less for UK than an independent Scotland. Although the SNP first got into Parliament in the 1960s it was the fact that Callaghan's Labour government of 1976-79 had to rely on their support, along with the Liberals, to get a majority. That is the primary (perhaps only) reason why a referendum for a Scottish Assembly was held. Worse though, on realising the SNP might win, was the requirement to have 40% of the potential electorate supporting it as well as a majority of those voting. The support was 51.6% of those voting, but only 32% of those eligible to vote. Not surprisingly, this allowed the SNP to make great capital out of it, and also led to them voting down the Callaghan government. So instead of a noddy Assembly they ended up with a full Parliament, and then took a majority of seats when the 'system' was rigged to make this "impossible". So far they have turned a referendum defeat into some sort of moral victory - but as you so rightly say, where would they be now with independence? (see post 12 on page 1)

You would have loved hearing him squirm!
