Most people I talk to are at a loss with it all just as much as the authorities are. We only see half of the intricate relations between all surrounding countries and their religions. If we were fighting the whole region en masse then it would be us v them let's do the cunts. But as you well know it's far from clear cut. Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein etc. Brute force is the only thing many of the inhabitants of these sandy hell holes understand so a strongman dictator keeping all of these warring factions in their place seems like the only recipe for any sort of peaceful existence (if fuckers like Amnesty International can keep their bib out of the odd atrocity they commit to maintain control).
