I don't think anybody's first thought was "oh what a shame for the innocent Muslim population". Not one. People's first thought, was how horrific it must be for the hostages.

 

But then the vast majority of people whilst thinking that also realise there isn't anything they can personally do to help. So then the illridewithyou hashtag is something positive that people can do as a result of something terrible that is happening outside of their control. It was one tiny good thing coming out of a horrid situation.

 

The fact that some people see it as a negative is really just a sad reflection of where we are as a global society.

I think we need a big alien visit to show them there is more to it than just a man with a big beard wearing flip flops handing out virgins and unlimited lamb on the bone.

I'm in a minority, where I am religious, I believe in God, and that's my own personal choice, but I don't push it on people. I'll talk to people if they want to talk about it, I'll even entertain people who deem it acceptable to criticise me and my beliefs (as I'm Christian I'm fair game apparently, but if i had a different faith it would be illegal and frowned upon). 

 

When we get to a point where everyone can think like that.. regardless of their back ground... I don't think we will have a problem. Unfortunately every religion has its nutters, that cant let others be (despite practically every faith practising love and respect for other faiths). Doesn't take a few mins to find examples.

It will get to a point when your average British Muslim will have had enough of the bad name that these minorities cause and start to disown and oust them.
