Angleterre game is a friendly, competitive ones are one legged play off semi finals for Euros.

Got a vested interest in these, could do with Romania going through but they're already losing.

I've tried to get my head around it and have failed.

Think its basically a by product of so many places being available in the tournament now that to fill it the play offs have ended up being contested by the next next next best losers.

Up until the second round you have to try very hard to get knocked out of the final tournament too, same with the World Cup. Ruined it really, 16 team Euros were perfect.
