That in itself doe not yet guarantee a CL spot. If ManCity and Liverpool manage to win this season's CL and EL, and both finish outside the top 4, then the fourth placed team in the league is bounced to the EL.

Ranieri, to his credit, seems aware of this, as he said "Now we have the Champions' League very close to us".
