I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

A win in the Cup not only keeps the momentum going, but could also provide the club wit much needed revenue from Round 3.

An away game at a big club bankrolls us for a bit longer.

The "momentum" argument is countered by the benefits of giving our key players a break ( & safety from injury) before the more important league games come thick & fast, & also the chance for squad players to play 1st team football & keep up their match sharpness for when they're needed.

Of course any money is a bonus, but I'd guess that anything from the cup would be small change compared with the increased revenue from promotion. IMO it's not a gamble worth taking.

Full stadium would also go some way to paying the bills, but we know that ain't happening, Christmas shopping to do.

yeah by big tie in the next round, I meant one away from home who would sell out like Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc

and by sell out I mean the home end

Josh vela got injured in a cup game at Crawley (iirc)

Fadiga picked up a slight injury in the warm up of a cup game

Think Muamba got cramp in a cup replay

Wheater got injured booting a ball after a non training session watching a video.

If we start resting players then rest them all. Good chance we'll lose with half the first team missing so either go all out or don't bother.

Another Arsenal start for Rob Holding tonight.

Oh, and a goal down after 13 minutes.

Judging by his team selection against Grimsby I would expect a  near full strength side from Parky, resting only those who really are a concern. And well done to him for that, it's the FA Cup not some tin pot trophy where we don't play our best side like the Checkatrade or the quarter final of the Europa Cup. COYW

Zidane scored for Real Madrid today. (jnr)

Is that mick Fletchers lad playing for West Ham?

Well he is an OB of Canon Slade and was at BWFC 2005-09 before switching to mufc.

And he's equalised.

Sickening

Shame we couldn't keep hold of him then

Do you get any sort of compo if they are nicked at that age then go on to make it at a decent level?

Sheff Utd are a side that are capable of giving us a walloping if we don't play a full side. And that would be terrible for confidence.

Take the risk and play a full side. Third round, prem team, big gate, bit of money. I think the way we are playing we could give most prem sides a decent game and possibly cause an upset.

Never been one to go along with this cup is a distraction malarky. Talking to a west ham fan last night after they lost. They were saying they were glad they were out as they can concentrate on their relegation scrap. Thing is, even in the second half of the season probably 70% of clubs still have something to play for, be it title/promotion, relegation scrap or playoffs/European place. If only 30% took it seriously we might as well scrap the cups. And that would be a real shame.

The cornerstone of our success in the 90's was built on cup runs. I seem to remember a decent cup run (Southampton year) gave us funds to buy Andy Walker and the white hot years allowed us to keep David Lee after his loan spell. This time a decent cup run might just give us some breathing space!

How did we perform in domestic cups when we were finishing top 10 in the premier league every season?

thats a very good point, however back then we could play the same team week in week out without any major injury problems, if I think back only Andy walker springs to mind regarding a major injury.

a final and semi final spring to mind

they might if they go full strength and we don't

they are in exactly the same position as us

so will be interesting to see how strong the side they put out is (or if there fans are worried about putting out a full strength squad)

We were 5th or 6th round in seasons we were going well and 3rd round when we were kicking around the lower reaches.

Comes down to how good your players are and how deep your squad is, doesn't it?

and got knocked out by Arsenal twice, but beat them once - so it's not like we weren't trying or losing to lower league opposition all the time

Megson didn't get us past the 3rd round fwiw
