  • Utter rubbish. The bookies are rarely wrong and had us favourites to go back up the first season after relegation and second favourites the second season. We were not plummeting down the leagues, only

  • The Wigan owner Dave Whelan has risked further outrage among ethnic communities by referring to Chinese people as “chingalings”.

He's certainly digging a hole for himself. Maybe he'll advertise for an Irishman to do it for him.

Just seen the front page of the Guardian this morning.

The gift that just keeps on giving!

I think he actually said he has friends who are Yids and Chinks.

I can't be racist, I've got a colour tele.

Wigan have signed Chad Evans

Whealan has said he isn't a rapist and the whore wanted a good dicking

Chad Valley

Do people on here think using the word chink or chinky is wrong?

?

fwiw, hes said nowt most of us havent said

lets not forget that all muslims are terrorists and groomers, too

funny thing, for me, is that he's too fcuking pig ignorant to realise what he thinks matters not a jot and he hasnt got the sense to shut the fcuk up

this aint some owd fella suddenly in the limelight, he knows the craic

Yes, it's wrong, but we've probably all said/used it.

Mind you, we've never said it to the national press.

Do people on here think using the word chink or chinky is wrong?

?

I don't, but then again, I ain't a chink

I don't think he's done or said owt wrong other than be daft enough to say it to the media, as opposed to his mates

he might be old and old people are different in that way, but he must be aware of the PC sensitive times we live in

He's a day or two away from saying its my club I'll do what I want which will cap it off nicely - overjoyed that his plucky little cuddly old man image has been blown to high heaven doubt his old mate jim White will be picking up the phone anytime soon for a fun chin wag on SSN!

It probably is

I'll stop using it, if it offends them. But continue if it offends liberal PC dickwads

This evening I shall be partaking of a meal of food originating from the Orient

Has a certain ring to it

I can just imagine Whelan going "Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees, what are these?"

You don't say what Whelan said in public and get away with it. But he's a from another age so ignorant, and that's his defence. Malky Mackay isn't from another age and should know better. But having said that the whole PC brigade can't believe their luck as far as all this is concerned.

Wonder if Whelan has a vespa and a St George's cross beach towel.

I reckon he's pissed up half the time. If you were a reporter going for an interview with him, you'd definitely wait until after dinner for a better story/ quotes. Stupid old get.

As an act of conciliation, at the next home match at the DW Stadium, the food kiosks will not be selling hot dogs, but will be offering bagels instead

I'd go along with that as well.  I think using racist terms, although clearly unacceptable in these times, is all about intent and context.

He basically hasn't meant any offence and can't really see how that could be negatively perceived.  Misguided at worst for me.

Just a question in a devil advocate stylee; does it mean you're a racist if you use a racist term? For me, a lot of what people call racism or racist behaviour is actually stereotyping

Wasn't there a thread on here recently containing in the title  'Porridge Wogs?'  Surely that's potentially offensive to various ethnic groupings . . .  but was it racist?

Being misguided isn't an excuse in his position. Even a tin pot outfit like Wigan will have some kind of PR operation. If he was offered advice it would likely have been to say as little as possible and to make what he did say fairly conciliatory.

If he wasn't offered advice its a case of the emporers new clothes and reveals a lot about how he has run his businesses over the years.

Who's anyone to tell the him what to do? He made himself what he is today with sheer force of character after recovering from a the heartbreak of a broken leg.

Great seeing the nice old man image in tatters as andywalker pointed out, and the cherry on the cake is on the very same day we are doing great PR with Lenny and the young lad.

It's starting to feel that the Wigan itch is going to be well and truly scratched in the coming months.

Vincent Tan questioning whether Whelan is "fit and proper to be chairman of a football club in the UK." You couldn't make it up.

i hope the pressure keeps up

he says 'fcuk it'

where does that leave wigan, i wonder
